More on the Chazz Surratt front, according to a course close to the situation, THI has learned what the contingency plan is for Surratt regarding how football will affect his basketball participation. As we reported a few weeks ago, there is a spot waiting for the freshman QB (football) and guard (basketball) on Roy Williams’ team, but it all depends on what quarterback Mitch Trubisky decides to do with his future.
If Trubisky decides to return to Chapel Hill for his senior season, Surratt will join the basketball team in December on a part-time basis and full-time when football ends. If Trubisky decides to leave for the NFL, Surratt will not play basketball.
Currently the third-string QB, Surratt has taken reps with the 2s the last few weeks in practice and would have a very good chance at winning the starting job next fall if Trubisky leaves, so the staff would want him to focus on football.
