THI Podcast: What Is UNC Getting In Wojcik, Withers & Ryan?

I love the " FU PLAYER" reference Jacob.
Carolina absolutely lacked that from the roster last season. Ryan, Wojcik bring that attitude, and I definitely think Wilcher brings it in Spades!
As long as he can play. Caleb would talk shit making after his third make on his 13th shot.

Right now we have a roster I am not familiar with talent wise. If I had to predict I would say this team is a 2nd weekend team but I don't see them winning the NIT !
2 quality freshmen coming in but here lately I have come to not expect anything from freshmen.
I hope this team surprises me !

I somewhat got that reference from a former head coach in the CAA and it was adopted by one now in the ACC (not at UNC, obviously). I like to call it "screw you" publicly but have been using the real term in press rooms for years. It's such a perfect way to describe certain players, and having at least one is essential.

AJ in your opinion who’s the last UNC player that fits this mold? I can only go by watching but it took a while for me to find our last one imo.

Theo was somewhat a screw you player but didn't score enough. Joel had some of that. Rashad was, clearly Tyler and Ty in 2009. Brice had it as a senior. I think Cam developed some of it in 2019 and Coby would have had he come back for another year. Who are you thinking about?

Tyler for sure. I saw some of that in those players. What about PJ? Seemed that way at times. Coby would have been a dream as a year two player imo.

Completely agree!

@andrew jones - you were reluctant to call the portal squad "great" with Ryan, Withers and Wojcik on it.

What about with Ingram, too?

I'm thinking great. How about you?

Obviously that's on paper and awaits validation in the season, but sure looks great to me.

Yeah, I look at Ingram as the crowning jewel of this portal class but understand, that is not because I see him as the next MJ, far from that! I see him, for the players we now have as being a HUGE fitting piece, it is how the pieces fit together more than the individual player. When, not if, but when Cadeau announces he is playing for UNC next season it is the final puzzle piece that brings it all together.

Tell you right now, it may take a while early on for all these amazing individual pieces to to fit together but once they do UNC will be back to UNC standards and that very much makes us a final 4 contender!

Exactly.

Unlike you, I think we're already there without Cadeau, but we can definitely agree on the first part of your comment.

I do think we could be without Cadeau, I don't know that would be the consensus opinion but with him, it very well may be. But I am higher on Sim and Seth at the point than most.

Yes, I think that's about as good a foursome as UNC fans could have hoped for a month ago. We are taping a new deeper pod in the morning, and I am sure we will broach the subject.

It may be too late already, but a couple questions I hope you address:

1a. Who starts if Cadeau does not reclassify?

1b. Who starts if Cadeau does reclassify?

2. Do you think adding Ingram pushes anyone else into the portal? What about if we also add Cadeau?

3. Do you see Ingram more as a SF - pushing Ryan to SG - or more as a PF - with Withers coming off the bench.

4. Some complain that RJ should never play point, and that's why we need Cadeau, but others think that with this 4-man set from the portal, RJ has the necessary shooting around him to thrive at point. Where do you come out on that?

Jacob and I just recorded a pod that's running tomorrow morning hitting on each of your questions. We knew in advance! :)
