I am kind of reminded of the country song by Trace Adkins, "you're gonna miss this" in the line "you're gonna miss this, you're gonna want this back, you're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast".
We really don't appreciate Bacot now nearly as much as he will be fondly remembered by the future, we will learn how hard it is to replace what Bacot gives us as well as for how long he has given to us. Clearly the rebounding numbers are staggering, the toughness is there for anyone to see.
I think back to his freshman season, the team was destroyed by injuries, we set a brand new NCAA record for games missed by players due to injury. We started Brooks and Bacot in the front court but basically had no one behind either of them. Then as you would expect in such a injury ridden season, Bacot dislocates his hip, I think it was. Watching the pain he was in, I know I thought and supect many felt the same, well this season for Bacot is done. Bacot started the very next game and he refused to talk about how much pain he had to play thru and he was talked about as being a guy that could have been 1&D for us, he didn't shut it down, he came back and played thru horrific pain, he refused to stop. More than any of the rebounding and double double records this young man has set, I will remember that freshman season as the season he showed us all what it was to fight thru adversity, to refuse to back down to it, and the will to over come it.
