This is a BUICK??!!

Yeah, it's not bad. Definitely not intended to be a sports car but the styling is attractive. Also like what they did with the Avista which is based on the Camaro platform.

They definitely need to put that one into production. I've never understood why Buick complains about their average buyer age being so high, but they fail to put out a sports car. That's what brings in the younger buyers.
 
I don't know, I can kind of see both sides of that one. If you're going to have multiple brands under the same corporate roof and using the same platforms, you have to do something to differentiate them. Buick has mostly been successful as GM's more cushy, slightly upscale brand, slotting between Chevy and Cadillac. That niche tends to attract older, value conscious buyers (who can't quite swing a Caddy), and it has for the most part worked. Unlike Pontiac, which essentially had nothing to differentiate itself from Chevy and fell by the wayside.

They certainly need to continue their efforts to improve their identity in terms of quality and styling, but I'm not sure they really need to try to reach too far outside their niche by trying to do too much in terms of a sports car. The two cars in this thread are probably as far as they need to go - that small convertible would be right at home in a golf course retirement neighborhood, and there may be just enough of a market for a toned-down, plushed-out Camaro.

I'm not saying that they should totally abandon their identity, but they need to have a couple of cars that attract new younger buyers to the brand. If it's a good enough car, they can increase brand loyalty. Most old people will die at some point in their life. ;)
 
I dunno... "Buick" has always sounded like "Old Person's Car." A big, ugly, old person's car that breaks-down a lot. It even sounds "older" than Oldsmobile. I have a personal vendetta against Buick's since my mom bought THIS:

What do you mean? That's a classic man. You just need some 22 inch gold rims, paint it purple and add gold velvet to the interior.
 
a few years ago the average age of a Buick owner was 67 or somewhere in that neighborhood.

the convertible looks ok; my wife might go for that. The Avista looks better than the Camaro to me.
