"[Elisa] Ennis, who testified against the advice of her attorney Stephanie Rickard, said she made up the story because she wanted to ruin Foster's career and sue him for money after he broke up with her on the morning of Feb. 11. She also admitted to falsely accusing a former boyfriend of domestic violence in Louisiana in 2011 after he attempted to break up with her."

Same with false rape allegations. Like, the chick that lied and put Brian Banks in prison should be locked up for 20+ years. I say life, but that would never fly.

This is so so so so so wrong and it's why lots of folks do not believe rape accusers and do not believe "me too" comers-forward. This hurts women as much as it hurts men.

Or make a registry just for them. Women who lie about rapes and domestic violence are just as twisted, and perverted as a rapest. They have no remorse for the life they are ruining. They should have the same issues with finding jobs, with where they live, or how the public views them as a sexual preditor

20 years for lying . . yeah, that seems a bit harsh.

Men lie, women lie and kids lie . . politicians lie. poasters lie. moderators lie. lawyers lie. cops lie. corporations lie. everyone is hurt by lies.

Put 'em under oath and if, they lie, hopefully there are penalties.

20 years might be a bit harsh, but I agree with the sentiment. Although this would only happen if it was proven to be a lie, not just that the defendant was found not guilty (possibly due to lack of evidence or whatever). As exciting as it would be to know going in to every domestic assault/rape case that one of the parties (plaintiff or defendant) was going to jail for 20+ years, I think that would dissuade actual victims from pursuing charges.

Top penalty is only a yr in prison. I agree 20 is a bit harsh, but what about the guy who spends 7-10 yrs or longer in prison because of a lie. What about the cop who lost his job, his wife, his lively hood, or the marine, or any other person that lost everything because of this lie. Don't forget even when cleared that crap still shows up as you being charged with it on you background check. Don't think people won't cross you off the list because of that; I have watched that happen as well. I say 3-5 yrs and register on a registry for 5 yrs if it's proven you are indeed lieing about it. I think that's a good compromise

Okay, you make some good points. What about the cops that lie in court . . ? And please, don't tell me for one second that they don't . . what about those victims of deceit that lose their 'lively hood' and may have to endure incarceration . . ?

I really like this idea a lot.

Yeah 20 may be harsh for sure, but you get my sentiment. And I don't mean those in a case where there's just not evidence. I mean if it's able to be proven that the accuser straightup lied, then they should be put away.

As I've said before, rape is such an awful thing to adjudicate in a court of law because it's the only crime that simply boils down to hearsay a lot of the time.

If someone straight out lies and accuses another person of a crime, then their punishment should be whatever sentence the accused would have gotten if found guilty.
Similarly, my solution to fix the rampant sue culture we live in is to make the party that brings about the lawsuit responsible for ALL the legal fees of the entire civil trial, should they lose.

I think that would significantly cut down on the frivolous lawsuits.

As a law enforcement officer I know cops lie to cover their butts. When I was a really young deputy I was a bailiff in court and watched horrified as three white cops lied about a gun they could not produce in court on a black man. They lied about it because he ran and they roughed him up. The jury knew this and this white jury convicted him. I feel if a cop lies and is caught the punishment should be worse. 5-7 yrs. We are public servents. We should be held to a higher standard. I will never forget watching the judge sentence what I was 95% sure was an innocent man to prison, and get the habitual felony on top of that 15 yrs. I felt powerless it was there, and then that I finally began to see what it was like to be black in a court of "peers" so what to do? I could have become bitter and been a statistic of reverse racism, but what does that solve? Instead i serve my community. Educate the young black men about putting themselves in bad situations. My wife is white my kids all 4 mixed. If I had fallen to the anger that could have happened I would be no better than the racist white cops. I am not saying any solution to lieing is perfect. It's not, but at least it's an idea, and one I think is acceptable.

I appreciate your candor, good sir . .

I think that would significantly cut down on the frivolous lawsuits.

And, compensate the defendant for their time lost for missing work and sitting in a courtroom. Some predetermined rate, probably set at whatever the average wage for a worker in that state is for however many hours the trial lasted for.

Now, we know this will never happen because it would significantly cut down on the amount of lawsuits. Politicians are the ones required to change laws. For the most part, they're all lawyers. They wouldn't want to "hurt their own" by implementing this process.

This wouldn’t work out well for consumer protection. People need to be able to sue massive corporations without fear of having to pay for a team of a dozen lawyers that charge 2500/hr each
