I put this on premium and thought I'd share here

Anyone think UNC released the NOA findings purposely on the same days the start of one of the biggest sporting events in the U.S.?

I kept trying to figure out the delay and it hit me last night after the game. No credible sporting website or media outlet could forego NBA coverage for UNC. Had this been a day prior or later, the coverage would have been non-stop.

I'm sure we'll see some stuff today, but it won't be nearly as impactful. Brilliant strategy by the admin.

I just think it was coincidental.... these guys( in our admin) are simply NOT smart enough, savvy enough to actually PLAN that.

I thought the same thing Not that they PLANNED it but that it did come out on the same day and would have a lesser media impact due to the finals. I believe that is the case.

Agree throughout this process there is no way you could think they would be smart enough to plan anything pro active...

Couldn't you argue the other way? Onto a sports website at a time the Finals for Hockey and Nba is drawing people to the sports site to see?

I've never seen such coverage of infractions ever though.

The NBA finals rank behind all of the following
1 THE Super Bowl
2 The World Series
3 The Stanley Cup playoffs
4 NCAA football Playoffs
5 Indy 500/ Daytona 500
6 The Masters
7 Wimbeldon

I've read this stuff posted seriously before, but never on a Carolina board. This is the type of theory usually postulated on Crackride and RR. But since you asked.....

....Yes, of course it was timed. And then John Swofford used a Jedi mind trick to get Tiger to shoot an 85 and he also had all of the horses in the Belmont drugged so American Pharoah could win the triple crown.

It is all part of the master plan to keep the media talking about other things and ignoring the biggest scandal in the history of sports. This of course is necessary because without such measures by the Swoff and UNC admin, Chapel Hill would burn to the ground and then NC State would rise to assume it's rightful place at the top of the ACC and we all know that we just can't have that.

You aren't the center of the universe. A LOT of people watch the NBA Finals. Certainly more americans than tune into Wimbledon

My point was that ESPN and other networks had to make their main coverage about the finals. They couldn't divert extra manpower to the NOA findings.

I'm pretty sure ESPN has enough man power to give the NBA and UNC's NOA both all the attention they deserve. They have about 100 Talking heads and no more than 10 are at the NBA.

You gotta quit believing wolpfacts. These idiots have a conspiracy for everything that doesn't go their way while ignoring the obvious truth that they suck on the highest of level.

Couple things. One, the NBA Finals are the fifth most-watched sporting event in the U.S. according to this source.

Second, I don't think it's that inconceivable that the timing was deliberate. Unlike our previous dynamic duo of Mr. Miata and Dickey Baddour, it seems to me that there is a subtle pattern of Carol and Bubba tweaking the same news media that has pounded UNC relentlessly for years.

News of the NOA drops on a Friday afternoon before a weekend holiday? They release the NOA at the start of the NBA Finals? News of Roy getting a contract extension leaks the day after the NOA is released? I think they're messing with people, and I think it's hilarious. Fingers crossed for a COI hearing over Christmas and a ruling the day after UNC is eliminated from the tournament (or a Natty, whichever comes first).

i tried watching the nba game yesterday to support former carolina player harrison b. i got bored and started channel surfing after about 10 minutes. i get bored with one-on-one basketball without passing and playmaking. nba basketball is missing the part of the game i like best: TEAMWORK. unfortunately the college game is following the pro example -- players taking the first available shot whether it's a good shot or not. when players make a bad shot it provides an oh wow highlight reel, but for me bad shots are boring.

Finally someone bringing some facts to the debate!

Although to be fair those numbers are just based on 2012. An uncharacteristically high NBA year per the article (Lebrons 1st ring, plus Durant), and a lower than normal World Series due to a sweep and boring teams, etc.

Quit being dense. In no way am I a conspiracy theorist. I don't visit pack pride. I do believe the people in power (Bubba and Folt) are supremely more savvy than what we had. Further, it is absolutely reasonable to suspect they chose the start of the Finals as a strategic time to release the NOA findings.

Yeah, I just don't think they care when it is released because there is nothing to hide.
