I've been going to Tar Heels football games for nearly 40 years and must say I had almost as much fun as ever out there today. It was a perfect day for football, the stadium was full and the crowd engaged, and the people I sat next to were great to hang out with. I was supposed to go with my 82 yo (works out everyday and looks 65 tops!) Dad (I've watched 99% of Heels games with him) but he was unable to go due to another important commitment, so I ended up going alone, yet did everything the way he would do it. Tried parking beyond Franklin st as he likes the exercise he gets walking Franklin and then to the stadium. Once at the game I bought a dog, soda and peanuts. I typically don't yell at games, but he does so I made sure the ref's knew each and every poor call they made that worked against the Heels. The Heels played great, but I complained a little, just as Dad would have done as he accepts only near perfection - I chuckled under my breath when I called him during a time out and he complained about MT having an off day. Finally, after the game ended I went over to the student store and then to Franklin to shop for some un-needed piece of tar heel garb or junk - I bought him a men's lacrosse national champ shirt as he played lacrosse and soccer UNC when he attended. One last thing of his ritualistic ways is stop to a subway for a meal after each game. I was tempted but really tired and had tons of traffic to contend with. We are going to a men's hoops game next Sunday so will be sure to treat him to a sub. Yep my dad was there with me today, but it will be even better when he is sitting next to me next game we have tickets.
