The medical examiner's news release said the autopsy found these drugs in Petty's system: fentanyl, oxycodone, acetyl fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl, which are opioids; temazepam and alprazolam, which are sedatives; and citalopram, an antidepressant.
The cause of death was "multisystem organ failure due to resuscitated cardiopulmonary arrest due to mixed drug toxicity" and the manner of death was "accident," the medical examiner's news release said. Petty also suffered from coronary artery atherosclerosis and emphysema, it said.

Accident? probably. Malpractice? yes. I have said for years that doctors should not be allowed to prescribe drugs anymore. They should be able to give a drug recommendation that a pharmacist has to approve after looking at all other prescribed medicines and interactions.

Hard to imagine someone "needing" that cocktail for treatment. I live with pain everyday of my life. I would never want to be a walking zombie to be numb from the pain. Lou, I like that view with the pharmacist. Afraid it would cause the cost of medicine to go up.

No human being should ever be prescribed fentanyl
Fentanyl is indeed a powerful and, potentially, dangerous drug. However, there are cases where it is very useful and probably necessary in the treatment of pain and during and after surgeries. The key is the proper use and monitoring of it. Can it be abused? Absolutely. Is it over-prescribed? Probably, but not to the extent of oxycodone and hydrocodone, at least in my experience. I have seen fentanyl patches prescribed in end of life situations that I felt it was absolutely necessary and useful. The potential for abuse always exists, unfortunately.

I’ve been unfortunate enough to need morphine on a few occasions. It’s amazing to go from excruciating pain to euphoria in a matter of seconds. Can’t imagine taking something stronger than that.
Yeah, I've had to get it after a few surgeries. If that stuff was over the counter then I'd probably be addicted.

Got a good friend that has rheumatoid arthritis, it's so bad he has morphine pills.
