Report on 247 said he turned down offers from both us and TxA&M to stay at TN.

He turned down a ridiculous offer from UNC. He was asked what it would take to come home and was given everything he asked for. I didn't think he deserved it then and I know he didn't now. He lied to both our AD and our head coach and most likely will never work at UNC again because of it.

Could be that he never thought UNC would give him what he asked for OR Tenn made him one helluva counter offer to keep him. Surprised that Thig would do that to one of his own but hey....

He DIDN'T think UNC would meet his demands. Our guys went to bat for him...and he backed out of the deal. The money's flowing on Rocky Top these days. Everywhere, it seems.

Lets be realistic.. He was happy where he was at and he is one of the top assistants in the country. He used it as leverage.. All coaches do it..

Yes, but when you do it, you burn bridges. And in this case, he burned bridges to his alma mater. And because Chizik was central in this, he burned bridges to places where pro-Chizik people are.

And Chizik is quite popular in the coaching fraternity.

That says a lot Woad. I am a loyalist and have been all of my life. How someone can crap all over their alma mater is beyond me. I hope it comes back to pay very negative dividends for him for a very long time. And with me being in Tennessee since '85 I can't explain the distaste I have for that cheating bunch of idiots. He will get what he deserves.

Here is a way I describe Vols fans to people who know the ACC and eseically NC: very person in TN whose instncts would make him a typical Wuffie if he were from NC is a Vols fan.

That's all anybody needs to know.

My guess is that Thigpen on some level wanted to deliver a blow to UNC because he still feels shafted by Davis not backing him against John Blake. He and Blake apparently had more than a few matches of words, probably over who was to be seen as top recruiter. As Butch had known Blake since Blake was in the 8th or maybe 9th grade, Thig was not going to win a pissing contest with Blake with Butch as judge.

And now Thig has made a bed that means he has played his alma mater and the SEC coach who hired him and set him up for greater things. Other ADs and coaches will recall it the next time Thig is trying to get a new job.

Get over it ..it is a business and at times it can be ugly...it goes both ways...as mentioned he used UNC as leverage for a place he was happy at....its how you get a raise in this business and it seems obvious he really does not care if he ever is at UNC again..not being harsh...but if he left UT the UT fans would be unhappy also...he did what he thought was best for his situation and I respect that
