Tony Dungy under fire for acknowledging Nick Foles’ Christian beliefs

Welcome to today's America. Dingy has never hid his faith. Unless it was in his contract to remain silent about it, then it's a non issue. Must have been a pissed off pats fan that was offended.

What's amusing is Dungy is a huge liberal

and is also (notice I'm putting this on a separate line so as not make light of the importance of the following)

a huge proponent for civil rights and African-American equality.

Liberals certainly aren't afraid to turn on their own.

Also LOL at a Houston-based sportswriter piping up on Twitter at Dungy.

Chica.... know your audience. You are a sportswriter based in HOUSTON, TEXAS. Tweeting that you're annoyed Dungy discussed an athlete's Christian faith is not a great way to build your audience.

I will be so glad when we move past the " I'm offended" stage. Maybe we will progress to the "I'm ignorant" stage and realize how stupid these outrages really are

There's a big uproar on the Notre Dame campus right now as well because the mascot is racist. Oh these Tide pod eating youngsters.

Sorry it's ESPN talking this crap. I heard it while half asleep.
I think Notre Dame is fighting back.

And young people are still Tide Pod eaters.
I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened sooner. I guess maybe it's because most Irish people are white. As a non Irish person I can assure you that the mascot and nickname have never made me think that Irish people are a bunch of drunks. The fact that they are a bunch of drunks makes me think that.

I'm part Irish:(

I'm a sober Irishman and not offended. I actually pulled for ND a lot before they joined the ACC.

Yeah, it's Kellerman, who I don't mind all that much and absolutely love his boxing coverage. But he's being a unreasonable here.

This whole thing has gotten way out of hand.

I'm neither, actually. I'm just me.
Definition of American
1 : an American Indian of North America or South America
2 : a native or inhabitant of North America or South America
3 : a native or inhabitant of the U.S. : a U.S. citizen

If you go by every sane person's definition of an American, then you are American. You might not choose to identify as one, but that doesn't mean you aren't one.

People these days wake up every morning with the intention of actively looking for something to be offended by. It's really absurd.

The strive to be offended. All the rage these days.

Ya, I'm half Irish, and couldn't be less offended (although, it seems like everyone else is having a blast at this "let's all be offended" stuff, and this is my one opportunity to hop on that train, so maybe I should reconsider).

I don't understand when people like Kellerman say that this makes people think all Irish are drunk hooligans looking for a fight. Does he generalize/stereotype everyone? All it makes me think is that the mascot is a fighter - I don't carry that over to assume all Irish are like that.

Where would you draw the line for when you'd think something should be done about changing the name. If 50% of Irish-Americans are offended, 10%, 1 person?
Me, personally? I would never change it!

I don't care WHAT word any sports team wants to call their team in a mascot context. Nigggers, Jigs, Spicks, Spooks, Fart-Smellers, Fags, Donut-Punchers, Drunks, Wife-Beaters, Murderers, Maulers, Exhaust-Pipe-Inhalers. It's a sports team. I know it's, at the very most, a fantasy name. The Detroit Lions are not Lions you see in Africa. They're men playing football. So, if they want to choose a controversial word as a mascot, I couldn't care less.

When black people call each other nigggers, or gay people call each other faggits, then they continue to normalize the words. If people tell me "Well, it's okay because the people saying it are the ones whom the word was made to refer", then my reply is "Then, if it offends them, you'd think they'd be the first ones to NEVER use it! But, they are using it." If someone says that certain people are prohibited from certain activity (saying a word, for example) because of their ethnicity, that is called prejudice. It's also encouraging people to be intellectually lazy, because the context is what matters. The words are completely innocent. They're just words. They're sounds we use to communicate our thought... no more, no less. Our THOUGHTS are where you can find things that may be harmful... and our actions.

Yeah, this isn't really 'coming under fire' here, Nuk.

The only thing I've heard lately on the radio shows about Dungee was something positive about him saying something. I don't remember what it was though.

He weighed in on McDaniels telling the Colts to GFT. He was predictably butthurt over it since the Colts are his boys.

That's it. He was kind of right, especially regarding the assistants. I mean, McDaniels can do as he chooses but it is pretty crappy. I don't like the Colts though and hope their next coach is terrible so I'm ok with it.
