It adds nothing new, which makes me wonder why it is presented now.

Some think Beamer did what he did just to use UNC to get raises for his assistants. I think Beamer was never going to take the UNC job, even he he tried to convince himself he was, because he is a VT alum. He had built his alma mater to its highest point ever, and very few men leave that.

What I think we all should take away from the article is that Baddour still apparently does not know that his wanting Jim Donnan in 1999 (if Torbush had been fired then) marks him as a dolt when it comes to football (that is, if the hiring of Torbush didn't do the job).

Baddour could not seem to think beyond one man. He failed on Beamer, and bypassed Richt to hire Bunting.

The string of stupidity is hard to beat.

Of course Beamer leveraged UNC to get more money for his program at VT. That is done all the time by college coaches. Part of the game. And he wasn't leaving a school that is only about football for a school that is only sometimes about football.

As far as Baddour, football was secondary. It was, is, and always will be, about basketball.

Baddour also handled Doh, so I don't think some purported primary focus on bball was any better.

Oh, and shame on Baddour for trusting a handshake, shame on Beamer for being a dishonorable liar.

I think he kind of got hung there. After Gut, the hope was for Roy to take over. Roy wasn't ready to leave. They weren't going outside of the NC family. Doh had been an assistant with Roy and had a good year at ND. And I would guess that Dean had a lot more to do with Doh being the coach more than Baddour did. After all, Baddour probably wouldn't have even been the AD without Dean's support. So I doubt that Baddour was anything but a rubber stamp on the decision. Took a couple of years to figure out a couple of things. First was that Gut was not the recruiter everyone was hoping he would be. Second, while Doh brought in some talent, who knew he was a psycho? Thank goodness that Dean finally shamed Roy into coming back to return things to normal.

Jordan pushed for Doh not Dean.

ETA: And he wasn't the second choice either.
