Up 9 and in total control of game and all of a sudden give up a 24-3 run to a ND team that is just not that good defensively. Add ND to FSU and Miami as the list of CB basketball power houses we have lost to in the ACCT finals in the last few years or so.

Cue the "no heel can do any wrong" crowd telling you to stop being a hater. In 3....2....1....

The truth is this team played an amazing tournament and did better than all of us thought coming in. But that 6 minute stretch of 24-2 scoring differential or whatever it was is frankly embarrassing.

Next week starts a new season though, one in which I hope I don't see such a piss poor effort as those 6 mins, but see the amazing effort they put forth throughout the rest of the tourney,

Go heels, surprise us all (in a good way) in the NCAAs!!!!

And every one of those teams were incredibly talented, very well-coached, with ACC POY players and all ranked in the Top 10 in the country.

I agree that the stretch you mention cost them the game, but I don't think we were "in total control of the game." Notre Dame is not some slouch team that fell into the final game, just like FSU and Miami weren't. If anything, WE were the team that sorta fell into the final game this year! No one expected UNC to be in the ACC final game!

The real killer is we were dominating and looked ready to put the game away. I am also so damned tired of seeing guys who just aren't that quick or athletic picking off our telegraphed passes and driving in for uncontested layups. Connaughton , Varsho or whatever his damn name is and the big guy who came in shooting 62% on ft and made like 8-9. All 3 made steals and drove in for uncontested layups.

Yes Strumm I agree with you, nice comment. I think the Heels may get a #5 seed in the tourney and feel sorry for who is in that bracket...

Sorry but strum was factually inaccurate.

Miami was #9 and had a split ACC POY when we lost to them in 2013... So that part is fine.

FSU was #17 and Zeller (UNC) was ACC POY in 2012

ND was #11 and Okafor (Duke) was ACC POY in 2015

We went from 5 down to 9 up and even the announcers said ND was in trouble. I don't blame Roy at all we made unforced errors and several possessions couldn't even get off a shot. In a critical sequence the ball was loose on A ND possession and we failed to secure it and they nailed a 3 and at that point the game was effectively over.

Sorry, but even with your corrections, it's nothing to be ashamed of. It sucks to lose, but the teams we lost to were not crappy teams that won on a lark.

^point taken strum. I was just surprised enough that I looked it up, and in a grumpy enough mood after the loss to post the correction. Good tourney from the heels, just hurts to lose a close one like that.

Lost in ACCT champ game 2011,2012,2013 and 2015 when do we catch up with the law of averages? I thought it would be tonite. I am really pissed that we couldn't win it for DES. ND never even made it to a Big East final yet they win their first ACCT.

Wow... it had slipped my mind that we were in the final round all those years. It's kind if a Buffalo Bills-vibe there, if not for the 18 crowns before those years!

I thought it was 17?

It was a total collapse, but I am really proud of what the guy's showed this weekend. It would have been icing on the cake for this group of young men to have hung a banner in the DES Center, who knows maybe they still can. We played through a lot of crap this year and it has been a tough team to follow, but we are seeing some great improvement.

IMO, this game was not lost at the 3 point line. Yes they hit 10, but we did hit 5. Only a 5 point difference. I believe the turnovers were 13 a piece. Yes ours seemed to come all at once, but that was not the reason we lost. Look at the free throw line. That is were the game was lost. I know they got a lot of trips to the line in the final 2 minutes while we were trying to put them on the line, but before that point they had still lived on the line. Now, to the reason, was only one team playing aggressive, no. Then why the difference, why all the ticky tack calls on one end and not the other. I am taking nothing away from Notre Dame. They are a fun team to watch and have some great shooters, but the officials had the major impact on this game. My question continues to be WHY. Seems like every team can basically dictate the style of ball they want to play and the refs choke on the whistle, then when we have the ball the refs do not pull the whistles out of their pocket. Oh for the day's when we got all the calls like Dook does today.

I have absolutely no respect for the ACC officials. I know that there are guys calling rec league games that could do just as bad a job as these jerks , and yes many are jerks. On that note who was the official calling his his first ACCT championship game last night? I remember the announcers saying he wasn't taking anything from the Carolina bench.

I walked in the house after working about 13 hours and this is what I saw. The heels up by about 8 , 64 to 56 I think. Well Berry was down in the paint and his guy hit a 3 pter , then Berry throws a bad pass that turns in to a layup , then Berry throws a pass at Meeks feet that turns in to a 3 then I thing we had a another turn over that turns into a 3 boom it is a 11-0 run and we pissed away the game.

That sounds about right. This team had a lead and seemed to be rolling, and before the average Wuffie could spell W-U-F, the game flipped over, and the UNC tezm siuddenly looked like a bunch of HS freshmen sent out to play against the varsity team that just so happens to be headed to the state tournament.

Our team did not lose because refs called too many fouls on us and/or too few on ND. We didn't lose because we didn't get a double bye. We lost because once ND hit its stride running, our players lost all ability to think on the court and all heart. This UNC team simply wilted and died on the court.

Not playing smart basketball. Not playing with heart. Not being tough for entire games. These have a been a problem for some time.

Its sad because this is a top 5-8 team when Paige is hitting his shots. If we didnt piss away the first Dook game, second L'Ville game and last nights game we would probably be getting a 2 seed today

When UNC lost to Miami it was not an embarrassment. Miami was the better team that year. If fact the championship game was a helluva game with PJ and Bullock keeping the Heels close. UNC ended up an 8 seed in the NCAA that year I believe. The year the Heels lost to FSU I believe that Roy sat Henson because of his wrist injury in the championship game which really hurt the Heels and they lost a close game. Losing to ND is not embarassing because ND is a helluva team and has the kind of team that gives the Heels fits. Quick, physical guards who can get inside and guys who then spot up for a 3 on the kick out. Plus ND had good senior leadership which UNC is lacking.
I think UNC hit a wall in the 2nd half and ND was quick to capitalize on it.
Could not understand why UNC did not try the point zone or the 1/3/1 UNC occasionally runs to try and stem the penetration that was killing them but the ND run happened very quickly.

I think fatigue did in the Heels. 4 games in 4 days is rough, especially against teams as physical as Lou and UVa. Tired legs are fatal against a team like ND that will spread you and move the ball. Tired legs also contribute to reaching on defense instead of moving to stay in front of your man. Not having a healthy Pinson was big against ND, he would given another athletic defender with length on the perimeter. Back in November it was obvious that if a team went 10/20 from 3 they would be hard for UNC to beat and add in about 25 more points from the ft line - tough to overcome. People were screaming on Thursday and Friday about why James was in the games - if he is not getting those minutes does Meeks have anything in the tank on Saturday?

UNC has a tough but manageable bracket. They get to face the slower tempo team in the group first (Harvard, Wisconsin) before playing the teams wanting to push it (Arkansas, Arizona). If JJ can carry his confidence into the big dance and Meeks can get his stamina back along with Marcus feeling healthier than he has been since November and Brice playing his best, the Heels could really screw up a lot of experts' brackets.
