It's looking like another wild transfer year with a number of announcements made already.

Question: Could Roy dip into the transfer pool to shore up recruiting this year and next?

Some thoughts:

15-16 Roy has 4 seniors, 3 Juniors, 3 sophs and (so far) 1 Frosh.

For the 2015 class:
A graduate transfer would give the Heels a "one-and-done" player to add to the veteran line-up. Especially if the two 'big' targets (Brown and Ingram) go elsewhere.

For the 2016 class:
4 playres are definitely gone and at least 1 could consider going.
Sure, we're all hoping Roy lands Giles, Bam Bam Rowan, etc. But if they all come in as frosh, the 16-17 squad might need some 'veteran' help.
A straight transfer this year would give Roy a player/players who spend next season training with the team, learning the offense and preparing to help take over when Marcus, Brice, JP, Joel James and who knows who else moves on.

The thinking is to avoid a 2006 style drop-off.

Thoughts?

Roy said on his radio show tonight that there is a graduate transfer with interest in UNC . .

Speculation is it maybe the Drexel University SG, Damion Lee . . 6'6" and averaged 21 plus points per game. He shot 38.5 from behind the arc, and hits 88.7% on FTs . .

Google his name and read up on him . .

is this a graduate deal or a kid that has more than a year?

don't mean to make you do work but it just popped into my head.

as soon as I saw this on dspn earlier..first thought that came to mind was he's exactly what we need..hope I'm right!!

Is Stilman on scholarship? If so, that would leave one open spot. He'll probably have to wait on Brandon Ingram before dipping into the transfer pool. Damion Lee is definitely a hot prospect though.

Would love to get this young man on campus. He is an actual great player. Roy will do what is best. The young man will also make his choices. Can you spell Natty?! We shall see...

How does that work? I thought Dez, Jackson and Luke were all on scholarship this year?

Thanks Billy, reading about Lee was exactly what prompted me to write the OP.

How about scope for a transfer who's willing to wait a year? There's almost 150-200 transfers each year.

?? most transfers have to sit out for the year. So if Roy picks up one of the 200 kids who're on the market they'll be ready to play in 2016-17. Hence the question.

I love the idea of a graduate transfer. I've always loved it. It's a one-and-done without the stigma of being a one-and-done (although UNC might need a little OAD stigma). But they're usually tougher and stronger players both physically and mentally. A graduate transfer shooter is just what the doctor ordered for this team.

I'm not as high on undergrad transfers but I'd certainly explore it. The way recruiting is right now, beggers can't be choosers. So a Trevor Lacey type would certainly be something we should explore. But that's more risky. If they don't pan out, then they can be a wasted scholarship for years to come.

Adam Smith is transferring from Va Tech, shot 42% from three last year and led the Hokies in scoring. He originally transferred from UNC Wilmington to Va Tech. Another interesting name to look at.

I'd been waiting for this - Goodman has come up with his annual transfer list on DSPN. It's his best work (the rest isn't much to read)

I also stand corrected - the author claims there were 700 transfers last year!

the list

Dylan Ennis of Villanova is graduating in May with one year of eligibility left, and today Villanova announced he is transferring. See linked statement.

"Dylan is interested in finding a program that will allow him to play the role of a traditional point guard so he can be the primary ball-handler,"

Probably rules us out then, He'd be behind Paige, Britt and Berry.
