The following is some information from Tuesday's scrimmage THI has accumulated from sources:
*RS freshman QB Chazz Surratt performed very well, completing some tough balls, long passes and using his legs. He completed a couple of TD passes, including one to Devin Perry that was blown dead after the catch was made and would have been a long score.
Perry, by the way, is off to a very good start this camp.
*Sophomore QB Nathan Elliott was also very good and surprised some with his legs. He’s quicker and faster than one would think looking at him, and he continued to make the right passes. He ran for a score and also threw for another.
*Grad transfer QB Brandon Harris did some really nice things and should become more consistent as he gains more experience in this offense. He had some issues, though, including throwing a couple of picks, one of which was returned for a TD. He also fumbled near the goal line.
*RS freshman QB Logan Byrd didn’t stand out either with positives or negatives as much as the other three, but by no means performed poorly. Just so so.
*True freshman WR Beau Corrales continues to be one of the surprises of camp. He’s getting a lot of work with the more experienced player groupings (1s and 2s). He’s an impressive athlete.
*True freshman WR Dazz Newsome, whom we noted over the weekend, also is having a big camp. He’s going to be on the field this fall.
*The offensive line did some nice things, and apparently Cam Dillard has meshed in as if he’s been in the program for a few years. This is becoming his line, along with Bentley Spain’s.
*Defensively, DE Dajaun Drennon looked as athletic as any time since he arrived, which is very good news given his injuries a year ago.
*Also on defense, names offered for doing positive things were Jalen Dalton, Andre Smith, Donnie Miles, Corey Bell, and Jordon Riley.
