Turner Named Preseason First-Team All-America
Release: 06/01/2015
North Carolina senior offensive guard Landon Turner has been named a 2015 first-team preseason All-America by Phil Steele.
A native of Harrisonburg, Va., Turner has started games in each of the last three seasons and is the Tar Heels’ most consistent performer on the offensive line. He started all 13 games at right guard as a sophomore in 2013 and started all 11 games he played in 2014.
Last season, Turner earned third-team All-ACC honors from the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. He was named the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week after his performance in a 45-20 victory at No. 25 Duke as the Tar Heels posted 315 rushing yards and a season-best 591 total yards of offense. In that game, he had a career-best grade of 97 percent and had 15 knockdown blocks. He graded out at 87 percent on the year.
Turner is one of 10 starters returning on offense in 2015, including all five offensive linemen. The Tar Heels posted 429.8 yards of offense per game last year and have averaged more than 425 yards in each of Larry Fedora’s three seasons in Chapel Hill. Carolina is seeking an unprecedented fourth consecutive season of more than 400 yards per game in 2015.
Turner was joined on Phil Steele’s All-ACC First Team by teammate Caleb Peterson, UNC’s left guard.
Wide receiver Quinshad Davis, offensive tackle Jon Heck and punt returner Ryan Switzer were second-team picks.
Quarterback Marquise Williams, running back Elijah Hood, wide receiver Mack Hollins and kick returner T.J. Logan were third-team selections.
Center Lucas Crowley, defensive tackle Nazair Jones and linebacker Jeff Schoettmer were on Steele’s fourth team
