Great idea. If only we had a judge to determine the true winner.

Frank Costanza HAS to make the list for top 5. I'll take Tim Taylor, too. And Cosby has to be on the list. Was funny / good before people found out about him.

A couple other somewhat obscure ones?
Foghorn Leghorn (animated rooster)
Fred (?) Sanford from Sanford and Sons

Archie Bunker
Fred Sanford
Fred Flintstone
Red Foreman
Ben Cartwright

I've only seen the first season. I know I know...it's 'The Godfather' issue all over again.

Edit: Although Cranston made my honorable mentions list.

You beat me - I only got through like 4 episodes. It was just super depressing. I know it gets good but I gave up on it.

...but not seeing The Godfather is criminal.

Lot of good choices!
Jack Arnold (Wonder Years)
Andy Taylor
Howard Cunningham
Red Foreman
Ozzie Nelson

You could actually make the argument that BB has some similarities to the Godfather. It's definitely a dark show though. If that bothers you, watch Better Call Saul. It's a prequel with the same creators, but it's not as dark. Personally, I think it's better than BB.
