Ranking the top 2 Carolina Teams in Each Decade: 1960s

While it's hard to argue against either of those teams, as teams, it's difficult for me to be happy with any best of 60s list that doesn't include Billy Cunningham and Bobby Lewis.

Moreover, the 2 years when Lewis and Miller played together will always be among my favorites. They may have been the best duo in UNC history (where by duo I mean 2 guys who played off each other, not just 2 really good players who happened to be on the same team).

But I get it that the teams in question weren't as good as the ones AJ picked.

Still, look at these numbers:

1965
Cunningham - 25.4 points, 14.3 rebounds
Lewis - 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds

1966
Lewis - 27.4 points, 5.3 rebounds
Miller - 20.9 points, 10.3 rebounds

1967*
Miller - 21.9 points, 9.3 rebounds
Lewis - 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds

*For those who may wonder why their numbers dropped off in 67, Rusty Clark joined the team and for the first time since 64 UNC had more than 2 guys with double-digit points.

Two great UNC teams indeed. In 1968 the Tar Heels beat Lefty and Davidson to advance to the Final Four. In 1969 Rick Mount hit nearly every shot from deep that he took. Whatever the case , Charlie Scott was a fantastic player for UNC. He was must see TV at the time. Dean E. Smith and UNC were now firmly on their way ...
