• North Carolina opened the season with a 33-24 loss to Georgia. The loss dropped the Tar Heels’ record against the Bulldogs to 12-17-2. UNC lost its season opener for the second straight season to an SEC opponent. After starting the 2015 season with a loss to South Carolina, the Tar Heels reeled off 11-straight wins and advanced to the ACC Championship Game.
• In his first career start, junior quarterback Mitch Trubisky completed 24 of 40 pass attempts for 156 yards. He also rushed three times for seven yards and scored on a 1-yard bootleg run in the first half.
• Senior T.J. Logan opened the second half with a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown. It was the third of his career and the first for the Tar Heels since Logan returned one vs. Cincinnati in the 2013 Belk Bowl.
• Logan also rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown. His 21-yard touchdown run in the third quarter gave Carolina a 10-point lead, but those were the last points UNC would score.
• Six true freshmen and seven redshirt freshmen made their collegiate debuts in the season opener vs. Georgia. True freshmen to see action were safety Myles Dorn, defensive end Tomon Fox, cornerback Patrice Rene, linebacker Dominque Ross, punter Tom Sheldon and linebacker Jonathan Smith.
