Question: How you see the Mike London Hot Seat affecting each team?

Question: How you see the Mike London Hot Seat affecting each team?

It definitely affects the team, but I think it affects coaches more than anything. One of the most underrated things during the season is staying focused on what is pertinent to winning. Everything else is white noise and isn't going to help you win, especially if fans and media are calling for London to be fired. It's just an added distraction for them, and hopefully another edge for us going into this game.

I should not be surprised that even a VA raised Tar Heel is ignorant of history and thus of the present. Such is the mark of the time. How important is The South's Oldest Rivalry? Thomas Wolfe, the most famous (but not the best: that honor belongs to Walker Percy) UNC graduate novelist, wrote about it, fictionalizing one of the classic games decided by one great play.

If any UNC football staff fails to highlight the fact that UNC-UVA is The South's Oldest Rivalry, it should be reprimanded. You can bet that no Georgia or Auburn staff ever fails to stress being part of The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry.

I see where you're coming from, but since I've been a Tar Heel, it's just never been considered a rivalry in my opinion. That's from my (and my teammates of the five teams I was a part of) perspective and how I felt the fans treated it. It just wasn't there. It was just another game and still seems that way. Maybe we weren't clear in the podcast, but we know/knew that the game is called the South's Oldest Rivalry. The coaches did a good job of informing us of that, but again, the feeling of playing a rival just wasn't there. Seems more like the South's Oldest Series to me.

That could explain the long losing streak in Charlottesville, as well as the losses in Chapel Hill.

I was around when UVA hired George Welsh. I tried to warn other UNC football fans that Welsh could win ACC titles in Charlottesville. Most people thought I was crazy, a chicken little afraid of the sky falling.

There is something wrong when the team you've played most starts to defeat you seemingly at will and you fail to get riled up about defending your part of the rivalry.

I agree that something would be wrong with that, but they haven't beaten us in six years. That streak is only going to continue with the way things are trending as well. We are beginning to see the true potential of this UNC team and coaches, and London may be on the outs in VA. We're just going to agree to disagree on the "rivalry" part of it. Times change, and this isn't looked at as a rivalry anymore. They aren't our biggest rival, and we aren't theirs. So where is the "rivarly" besides the history/numbers of the series? It's not even like we dislike one another that much. You bring NC State, Duke, and even ECU into the equation? Then you start talking about having a palpable dislike for the team.
