Same.Bottom line,I love and support all UNC sports and that's as far as it goes.
I beg to differ. The total capitulation to political correctness in every facet of student life and academics eroded my support for UNC academically over many years. I used to give money to UNC, but I don't anymore. In addition to the rank political correctness imposed across the spectrum - and, frankly, the straw that broke the camel's back for me - was the consistent suppression of conservative points of view on the faculty and tolerance of students shouting down conservative speakers at campus. When I went to UNC, conservatives were tolerated. They certainly weren't in the majority, but their views were respected and given voice. They aren't anymore as far as I can tell. That is something I will not tolerate, so I stopped giving. If you want to think that a monolithic, politically correct and liberally indoctrinated student population constitutes providing a quality education to North Carolinians, go right ahead. That is exactly the opposite of what I believe should exist.I love and support my alma mater period. Both its sports teams and its fundamental mission of providing quality education for the people of our state. Something silly like this doesn't change that.
But yes, this is quite silly.
Here's the thing -- the University's stated goal is to be a university of the people and for the people of North Carolina. With its far-left slant, UNC is failing in this endeavor. Yes, North Carolina is more and more a 'purple' state.....but that still means roughly half the population is Republican/conservative. The University does not reflect or embody that. I won't give any to the academic side until this is addressed.I love and support my alma mater period. "There's plenty of room for dissenting views."It's a college campus. There's plenty of room for dissenting views. This Writing Guide thing is misguided (pun intended) in my opinion, but you're blowing it way out of proportion. UNC provides one of the best values in education, especially for in-state students, and I'd be thrilled and proud for my daughter to be accepted and attend UNC, if that's where she wants to go. Fortunately, if you feel differently, there are lots of other choices.
I graduated much more recently than you, and I'm telling you there is virtually no room for Republican viewpoints to be publicly expressed.I just don't see that being the case. There are students from all kinds of backgrounds on campus and all kinds of groups with all kinds of views and objectives. Just like almost any college campus anywhere. Part of that liberal agenda you hate so much is that everyone has a right to their views, unless and until it steps on someone else's rights.
Certainly there are cases where particular issues have been handled poorly or when the university makes decisions or has policies that I don't agree with. (And I'm sure moreso for the Fox News set.) But by and large UNC's campus is a more accepting place for various and diverse people and views than you'd find on Main Street in any other N.C. town.
As far as where you give your money, thanks for letting me know over and over, but I really don't care. I'm sure Liberty is accepting donations.

It's asinine, frankly. The student government routinely shits on the College Republicans, denying them budgetary request and the like. And the whole mess with Tancredo is absolutely unacceptable. You preach the first amendment right to protest and make your voice heard and in the process, deny other people their first amendment right to express their points of view. It's a sick culture.
To be perfectly honest, unless my son/daughter is an amazing athlete, I don't want them going to UNC. That's kinda sad and depresses me a bit, but I shudder to think how left-skewed UNC will be in ~25 years when I have a kid that's college age.
Can't name a conservative professor on staff at UNC, ehhhh... And, this is the standard liberal argument - if you don't like our cozy little liberal echo-chamber, GTFO... How typical. You and BillyL in bed together this morning? They certainly should be commended for having Bernie on campus. And the Flames would love to have your support. You'll look great it red!
Hey, and you wonder why there aren't any conservatives at UNC! OBTW, it wasn't a jokeCan't name a professor on staff at UNC, period. And Billy's busy making my lunch.
And this is the standard conservative argument - Don't agree? Make gay jokes.
