UNC pays out for hazing incident

holy crap! What is the real story here? UNC police nor Chapel Hill police investigated the matter because it was never reported by Boyer. So no criminal charges occurred.

Am I right that the only public thing we know is that there was a hazing related issue leading to Boyer's concussion?

This seems like a huge amt of money, though I don't pay attention to lawsuit settlements. The Boyer attorney must've had some pretty damning evidence eh?

The entire athletics department better learn from this and get very tough to prevent any such thing from ever happening again, in any sport.

The story is Boyer is an over-priviledged white boy with yuppy parents and the family resides in Chapel Hill. I don't think I need to say anymore. If you've spent any time in Chapel Hill (outside of the campus) in recent years and interacted with the types of folks who reside in Chapel Hill, you'll know what I mean. I enjoyed my time at Carolina, but you'll never, ever, catch me living in Chapel Hill again. Ever.

The town's preciousness has apparently gotten worse and worse. When James Taylor grew up there, it was still a small town that seemed very much like other small towns that had a strong rural basis. Now, it is very much a town that is unreal in many ways. You see all kinds of suburbs and suburban towns similar to it all over the country. They are mostly run by and for rich and near rich white Liberals. And the main purpose for how such communities are run is to protect their citizens from most of the real world results of the accumulated Liberal policies. And that means you invariably get young people from such communities who have a sense of entitlement. And when that sense of entitlement meets the sense of entitlement common to the vast majority of heavily recruited athletes, well, then, you can have major trouble.

And it will not matter to the UNC athletics department if the next time something with hazing happens that the cause is a spoiled punk, either spoiled by being rich or spoiled by always having gotten away with stuff because he is a top athlete. The UNC athletics department will pay the price.

This is BS. There was no hazing. It was a danged joke. The "victim" was taking a shower when a teammate threw cold water over the top of the shower curtain on him, something I'm certain 99% of the posters here have been involved in on one end or the other. The "victim" started a fight and got his butt kicked, then cried to mommy. His big-mouth brother blew it up on the tweeter.

That's it.
