• The Tar Heels lost for the first time in four games under first-year head coach Hubert Davis.
• Senior Leaky Black, Carolina’s starting small forward who was UNC’s defensive player of the game twice in the first three games, did not dress due to a non-Covid-related illness. Sophomore guard Kerwin Walton started instead.
• Carolina had won the last 12 times it scored 80 or more points.
• Carolina trailed at the half for the third consecutive game.
• Carolina allowed a season-high 93 points and Purdue shot 55.7 percent from the floor, the highest by an opponent since Georgia Tech shot 59.0 percent in a 96-83 win over the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill in 2020.
• Carolina did not attempt a free throw in the first half, the first time that happened since the first half against Virginia Tech on 1/18/2015.
• The Tar Heels went 10 for 12 from the line in the second half.
• Carolina was 12 for 29 from three-point range as seven different players made a three.
• The 12 threes are the most in a UNC loss since it made 13 in a 91-88 loss to Miami in Chapel Hill on 2/27/2018.
• Carolina had won the last eight times it made seven or more threes.
• Dawson Garcia scored a season-high 26 points. It was the second-most points in his career, his 19th game in double figures and seventh with 20 or more.
• Garcia made a career-high 10 field goals (had nine against Villanova and UNC last season while playing for Marquette).
• Garcia matched his career best with three 3FGs (also last year vs. Eastern Illinois).
• Garcia was 10 for 13, a career-high field goal percentage of .769. He was 8 for 11 (.727) vs. Xavier last year.
• RJ Davis and Caleb Love both scored 18 points. Love has scored in double figures in all four games this season. It was the second time this year Davis (and Garcia) scored in double figures.
• Davis scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half. He scored all seven of his points at Charleston in the second half and scored 14 of his career-best 26 in the second half vs. Brown.
• Garcia, Davis and Love made 23 of Carolina’s 31 field goals.
• Carolina scored a season-high 21 second-chance points.
• It was the second straight game the opponents scored 19 points off UNC turnovers.
• Carolina’s 14 bench points were a season low.
• Purdue’s 93 points are the most by an opponent since Iowa scored 93 last year in Iowa City.
• Carolina trailed by as many as 10 in the first half and by six at the half. UNC took its first and only lead with 9:19 to play when Garcia made a three for UNC to go ahead, 65-64.
• Sasha Stefanovic (23), Jaden Ivy (22) and Trevion Williams (20) are the first trio to score 20 in a game against UNC since NC State on 1/27/2018 (Allerik Freeman 29, Torin Dorn 20 and Markell Johnson 20).
• Williams was the first non-starter to score 20 vs. UNC since NC State’s Braxton Beverly had 21 in Raleigh on 1/8/2019.
• Purdue was 18 for 28 from the floor in the second half. That’s the second time in four halves an opponent shot that percentage in a half (Charleston was 18 for 28 in the first half on 11/16).
