The Tar Heels will open with a pair of football games away from Chapel Hill before playing the home opener this fall for just the ninth time in the program's history and just the second time since 1971.

And on just one occasion the Tar Heels entered a home opener with a 2-0 record. That happened in 1971 after wins at Richmond (28-0) and, ironically, at Illinois (27-0). The irony is that the Heels this fall open versus Georgia in the Georgia Dome before visiting Illinois.

Here are the years Carolina opened with consecutive road games:

1919 - @ Rutgers & @ Yale - 0-2
1922 - vs. Wake Forest & Yale - 1-1
1924 - @ Wake Forest & @ Yale - 0-2
1926 - @ Wake Forest & @ Tennessee, 0-2
1967 - @ N.C. State & @ South Carolina, 0-2
1969 - @ N.C. State & @ South Carolina, 0-2
1971 - @ Richmond & @ Illinois, 2-0
2001 - @ Oklahoma, @ Maryland & @ Texas - 0-3

*2001 is the only season in which UNC has opened with as many as three consecutive games away from Chapel Hill.
