Deandre Smith, who was at Purdue - which has sucked in a triply major way for a long time.

From your posts, that's exactly what I thought you were. Deep down, I don't think you're overly impressed with the direction in which our program is heading either. Either way, we'll have a definitive read on Fedora in a couple of more years.
How can you tell what program the direction is heading with so many unknowns on the depth chart?

Let's see. 40-25 overall and 26-14 over five years in the weakest division in the league. 1-3 in bowl games. And now a year coming up where we have lost the heart and soul of our offense and 2-3 of our best defensive players. Add to that the loss of four defensive coaches, including our DC. You tell me, does that sound encouraging to you? And yes, I give him credit for having to deal with a neverending NCAA Investigation. Still, I had hoped for more after five years.

As I said, in a couple of more years we'll have a definitive idea of where our program is headed under Fedora, one way or the other.

- broke losing streak in Atlanta
- won ACC Coastal twice. Can't make a direct comparison to the past because conf. champ. games didn't exist, but the last time we won the ACC was 1980, so he got us on the doorstep twice.
- won in Tallahassee... a very rare feat for the Heels.
- Undefeated against former and inexplicable thorn in our side Virginia
- countless offensive records set under his tutelage
- has consistently pulled in Top 30 classes
- recruited and cultivated a (potential) 1st-round QB

Is it perfectly clear skies right now? F**k no. The losses to Duke and State last season were pathetic, embarrassing, and unacceptable. Has he made a lot of mistakes? Yes.

But damn dude. We overachieved big time in 2016 with a team with amazing heart and all of our fanbase loses their mind and think we are suddenly a Top 10 program, when we clearly were and are not. Then we slightly underachieve (but honestly not by much, maybe by 1 game) because depth (hi, NCAA sanctions) caught up to us because of injuries...and everyone loses their minds again and thinks we suck, Fedora should be fired, blah blah.

I'll say it again, this season is a bridge year. It's all about developing a QB and developing young talent at RB and trying to figure something out at WR. It's a bridge to 2018 -- a season in which we have a very, very manageable schedule btw.

Does seem somewhat like a bizarre hire with Purdue's recent reputation as Big 10 doormat?
i was very dissatisfied with our coaching this past season. our team was loaded with talent on offense but underachieved, which i blame on poor game plans, poor (nonexistent) half time adjustments, poor play calling and poor utilization of talent. in other words, almost any coaching change is worth a try in my humble opinion.

I hope that is a joke. The semi-competent often get sent off with fake glowing reviews, which pattern repeats.
often is not always. sometimes very competent people are ambitious and don't mind moving around till the find the right situation. we'll see...

I would think his performance would hardly be a secret and covered up by glowing reviews wouldn't be possible with games and player performances easily verifiable.

I agree the program is in better shape now than when he got here, but IMO he has maxed out what he is capable of doing as a coach here! But then again who are you going to get that's better that would not bail after one good season with a flattering offer from a big time football school.

This season should be interesting!

There is a long list of coaches that have had bad results yet still get employed by someone. All it takes is one or two average seasons and you will always be able to find a job regardless of how bad they are.

Can you provide this list? It would be great for LF to have a copy of it:cool:
