Dear Contributors,
We are in awe and humbled by the overwhelming support we received within just a day of launching our Kickstarter campaign. We set a minimum goal of $50,000 and a stretch goal of $110,000, and we hoped we would reach an amount somewhere in between within three weeks. After you helped us reach our minimum goal within a day, we realized we underestimated how many people have become frustrated with the media's sensationalism and want a more accurate and fair account of the events at UNC. With your help, we now believe we can reach our stretch goal of $110,000 as well as an additional stretch goal of 750 contributors.
I want to assure you that the money we raise is being used to make the film the highest quality possible and reach as many people as possible. A quality film that reaches people across the country is obviously quite a financial undertaking. In addition to raising money through Kickstarter, we are now working throughout the day, every day, to raise additional money through private donors for the film's ideal budget (approximately $250,000). Even that ideal budget is only a third of what many documentaries of similar scope and aims cost. When I recruited our producer, Connie Lo Ferrara, I expressed my desire to keep costs as low as possible, and she has been able to do that. One of the factors that has kept costs low is that everyone on the production team is working for less than they could earn elsewhere, because they believe in this film's importance.
We now need your help to reach our stretch goals of $110,000 and 750 contributors. Again, the funds from the stretch goals will be directed to enhancing the film's quality and reach, and, the more we can raise through Kickstarter, the less we need to raise privately. Within the first day, we reached over 250 contributors. If every one of you among that 250+ finds two additional people to contribute, we will reach over 750 contributors and likely $110,000. We believe we can do it with your help.
