Updating Stepherson's Status

Kevin Stepherson once appeared an emerging target for the Tar Heels from the all-too-familiar Jacksonville, Fla., area. Is that changing?
Dan Disch's exit has created a bit of a void for UNC recruiting in the Jacksonville area, which had become such a vital part of the Heels' recruiting strategy, particularly in Florida. Stepherson, a 6-foot, 180-pound three-star receiver from First Coast, said earlier this year that UNC, LSU, USF, Wake Forest and West Virginia had offered and were among the schools recruiting him the hardest.
But when< B>THI[/B] spoke with Stepherson again this week he indicated there's been a lull on UNC's end of late.
"I haven't heard from them in a little while because the recruiter for this area got fired a couple of months ago, I guess," he said. "I guess they're getting together another recruiter for this area. I talk to William Sweet a lot, though. That's my boy.
"He loves it up there. He loved the school before he left. He loved the visits and everything. He continues to love it," Stepherson said.
While UNC's interest has dipped recently it's not clear whether that's a permanent thing or a short-term blip on the broader radar. And another ACC school based in the state has turned up the heat.
"Recruiting is mostly going pretty much the same," Stepherson said. "Wake Forest is really a school that's talking to me every day. I was supposed to visit Wake Forest on (March) 28 but something came up with my finances. I'm going to try to make it to some schools around in the area, like UCF or USF."
Stepherson is ranked the No. 86 prospect in the talent-rich state of Florida from the Class of 2016.
