Just saw this article on Facebook and the USA Today story clearly indicated that Dunn’s, Love’s and Johnson’s fathers ALL SAID that the team did indeed VOTE not to play in the NIT. They also agreed that it might have been good for the team to have accepted the invite.

So now there is another twist of who said what or could it had been someone taking something out of context…

The Carolina program has dropped the ball so freakin bad. All they had to do was a 15 minute media presser the night they declined and be transparent. But they hid behind their desk and that has resulted in 10 different stories about what exactly happened making everyone involved look terrible.

And with the NCAA tournament starting, hardly anyone outside of hardcore UNC fans even care about who declined the NIT.

But it will probably be brought up a lot during the tournament about how we were the first number one to not be in the tournament and then turned down the NIT. It will also be a story at the beginning of next year. It was just poorly handled. From a PR perspective, you want to always be in control of the narrative. We had that chance, but gave it away.

Dook turned down the NIT 2 years ago, while simultaneously offering to replace any NCAA team that dropped out due to Covid. No one cared and the story fizzled out quickly.

The only thing driving this story is the obsessed UNC fans clicking on links.

Not a good comparison due to the rona. Not really sure why you can't see how this was handled poorly. It's pretty obvious.

ETA: And those obsessed fans help fund the program, so they should probably at least pretend to care.

Duke turned down the NIT because coach K felt he was above the NIT. He used Covid as an excuse, and everyone saw that when they heard Duke was willing to fill in for any NCAA team that dropped out.

So no, it's not a poor comparison. It's a blue blood who turned down the NIT 2 years ago, and the only people that got upset about it were obsessed Duke fans upset over how their season went. The story stopped being news when Duke fans stopped obsessing over it.

When you and others stop acting like dookies, you'll see everyone else has moved on from this.

WGAF??!!!!!
Obsessed UNC fans looking for reasons to continue to get angry over a mediocre season.

USA Today could put out an article tomorrow about a player eating Nance's Oreos, and you can count on the same angry fans clicking it, reposting it, and twisting themselves into a pretzel to blame it on their favorite targets.

"Sure some of the blame is on McKoy for eating the Oreos. But it's up to the coach to install a mentality to not eat delicious snacks. Had Hubert been a better coach, McKoy would have never eaten Nance's cookies." - NotaShelbyFan

Saying the team voted not to play makes it sound like all the players voted that way. The article states that Love & Dunn voted to play. Apparently, Trez did as well. Puff's dad didn't know how he voted. The players that voted to play may not want people thinking they voted not to.

We already knew this. Allowing players to vote also doesn’t mean you will abide by their decision-so ultimately there is no conflict between a vote taking place and Hubert making the decision. Hell he could’ve asked them to vote just so he knew who values wearing the jersey more and who doesn’t.

Now that’s a thought. I guess some of the players figured they’d already made their NIL money.

In your scenario, Hubert would have lied about the purpose of the vote? That would make it even worse.

I could see it as him trying to take ownership of the whole decision rather than throw his team under the bus and blabbing about internal affairs to the media, and maybe the parents just told the truth when they were asked their opinion.

But man, talk about poor coordination. For how much this University prides itself on its Communication and Journalism program, this was an amateur level gaffe.

He has never said the vote was the determining factor. My point is he did have them vote AND made the final decision, which makes total sense although I disagree with the result.
