I don't like either of your dark horses.

Can we get the link you used? I've seen MSU at 13:2 and the Heels at 8:1 and duke at 18:1. TIA.

I don't really like them either, they're long shots, haha!

Who are your dark horses? (must be 20 to 1 or greater)

Can't provide a link bc it's thru my online account log in. I could take a screenshot I guess.

I see Maryland at 22/1 - I think they have a reasonable shot and could be worth a $10 or $20 flyer.

California at 20/1 - Their freshmen could be good enough to give them a deep run, only problem is it's tough to trust freshmen in the tourney.

I'm seeing Arizona at 32/1 - that could be the best value on the board IMO

Normally pick UNC, but all my brackets will say KU. If Roy retired today, Self would be my first choice to be his successor. Don't see him ever leaving KU for another school, though. Probably the top basketball coaching gig in the country.

ETA: There have been six teams ranked #1 in the AP poll this year:
UNC
UK
MSU
OK
Nova
KU

They have combined to average 24 wins and 6 losses, if you round up. No team has more than 26 wins and all have at least 4 losses. That's parity folks. When you consider that UK and Nova play in weak leagues, I'd say we're sitting pretty well.

Don't go making sensible posts Archer. They don't go over well here.;)

I think West Virginia could be a solid long shot pick. They would need officials who are a little more liberal when they face better teams but Huggins is a good coach. His teams will play hard and have the ability to frustrate good teams. I'm surprised KU doesn't have the best odds. If Valentine has an off night MSU is in trouble. KU has a lot more balance.

Yeah I was pretty surprised to see MSU as the favorite - I did a double-take on that.

It's amazing isn't it, regardless of how badly they start the season (and pretty much every season is a disappointing start) Izzo ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS has his guys ready to play by mid-February. I would personally take Izzo over Self but neither one of them will ever leave their jobs.

I don't think Roy gets enough credit here either. Izzo does have his guys ready but Roy has generally been good at this as well.

WVU won't win it. You shut down Paige and they don't have the shooters to win it all. Iowa State is an even longer shot IMO. Honestly, IF I'm dropping money, this wouldn't be the year I would do it. There's no clear cut favorite that can just take over games and dominate. Closest IMO, is Kansas, but that's still a crapshoot. I'd drop money on Carolina, but I wouldn't break the bank doing it.

I think MSU and Kansas should be about equal favorites. I don't think we should be at the same odds as KU at this point.

I'd like to be able to take the "other side" of Nova at 7.5 to 1 and especially Dook at 9.5 to 1. Those are way too short of odds, compared to UVA, Xavier, etc.

I wonder what odds Wisconsin is at. They usually seem to be a good tourney team, fairly recently and have played pretty well recently. I know they have a new coach but he's carried along the program well. I'd trust them more than Iowa at this point. And Indiana seems like they should be better odds than Iowa now too. Iowa has been pretty darn bad the last half of the big Ten.

Maryland still has the talent to do damage, but maybe Melo is injured.... and maybe they have internal team strife issues... who knows.... they have underachieved of late. Recall they were like a #2 or 3 ranking at beginning of year.

What about Miami? People talk about them as a 1 seed maybe. Are they at longer odds than, say, Duke? Miami would straight up kill Duke on a neutral floor right now, I think. Would run them to death.

Believe it or not Miami and Wisky are both 23 to 1.

I wasn't comparing him to Roy .... and besides, Roy typically starts off the season pretty strong, unlike Izzo's teams. They have some horrendous losses in the first 10-15 games over the past 10 years.

Those would be my long shot bets. WVU isn't a bad one as their full court press can really trip up teams. They are a team that could make the final four or lose in the first round. WVU, more than most teams, will depend on match ups to make a deep run.

KU has the most balance and weapons and if all teams in the country are clicking, I personally believe KU is the best, but they have disappeared at times this year. Really, the team that seems to be hitting its stride at the right time is MSU.

All I can say is I hope and pray it comes down to us playing Izzo. For what ever reason ol Roy owns that team, and I love it.

Oh, I know. I wasn't really meaning anything towards you at all. I just see all this hype for Izzo and how he owns March and it seems Roy does as well to an extent so I was just piggybacking off that. I completely agree with you on Izzo.

Izzo's in my top five of college coaches. He's won 72% of his games, been to 7 FF's, and won a title in Gut's last year, 2000. Roy has won 78% of his games, been to 7 FF's, and won 2 titles. Very similar resumés.

the ACC will have one final four team in the Tourney, My guess is it will be one of the 2 teams playing tonight, never count these out regardless of how these flash in the pan teams do ...
