They've got a fairly good class, but only so-so in the trenches. But it sounds like VT is still in it for KJ, Sandidge, Hollifield and Walker. We're gonna get left behind if they catch some of these guys.

Good news is that we're still in the mix for Sandidge. Maybe we can win out while SCar struggles in their remained - UGA, florida, Clemson, wofford.

This lost year isn't going to help our recruiting any. Or maybe guys will say "I can start there right away". At any rate, VT is going to once again assert themselves I'm afraid. We are losing ground daily.

And that recruiting loss won't be just for this year. If there are not real changes made that lead to a big turn around next year, then we can expect hard times recruiting.

fedora has charisma and good rapport with the kids which helps recruiting. he also comes across as an honest guy with good character, which helps him connect with parents. the thing that worries me about fedora's recruiting is his image (right or wrong) as a poor game planner and game manager which will turn off kids who want to contend for national honors. also, schools who recruit against us can site quite a few examples of fedora leaving talented players on the bench often in crucial game situations, for reasons that are difficult to fathom.

^ one such person (ignoring real facts) could be Hood, but do they really wanna talk about a guy Fed put into the NFL draft? Curious, who else might that type of player be? Woad would say MT, but again do they really wanna bring up the guy who was #2 in the entire draft?

I hope you are smart enough not to try to make a case that Fedora made full use of either Hood or Trubisky. That's like defending Bunting for his failure to make full use of Willie Parker.

Hood is way different from Willie. Look up Hood's stats in 2015.

Unless mt could beat scar, Clemson or baylor, then yes fed made full use of mt.

Our D lost the games vs Clemson/Baylor, not our O. Marquise was bad vs scar, but mt was bad vs uga = wash. Marquise led to 11 wins, 15th nationally which was our ceiling given the D.

if a player stands out in college and he makes it to the nfl that's great for the program. if a player does not star in college but still makes it in the nfl it calls into question whether the coach recognized his talent or lacked flexibility in his game planning or play calling to feature that talent. yes top recruits want to play in the nfl, but they also want their abilities to be recognized in college. this is about perceptions. recently, a running back recruit who was interested in unc remarked in an interview that he and his parents were concerned about fed under-utilizing his running backs. for the future of carolina football it's the perceptions of high school players that matter, not your opinion (or mine). i like fedora, he's obviously a nice guy. but the only hope for our program is for larry to hire two top flight coordinators and stay out of their business and stick to his strong ceo skills.

At Bama , Clemson and tons of other giant programs, the QB is the leading rusher. The gm is evolving. That same argument could be used against Bama and Clemson...

Spare me with Willie friggin Parker. Dude is a trash human being. I know that first-hand. He also so, so obviously started doing PEDs after leaving Carolina.

I wish we would have taken advantage in the Hampton roads area when Virginia and Virginia tech were down. Having only Newsome from the 757 is a big recruiting failure IMHO. Now both programs are leaving us behind.

Va Tech has a strong commitment to recruiting in NC and done quite well in stealing top level talent in recent years.

Goes both ways, heck we pulled kyree Campbell, jayjay mcargo and Rene in a single yr.

Our starting dl sometimes is 75% Virginians - Carney, Crawford, Clarke

Not to say we haven’t gotten some nice talent from VA but we are getting 3 stars at best from VA. They, along with Clemson are racking up the 4 and 5 stars from our state. Big difference.

Why add Clemson to this convo, they're an entirely different beast. You said "done quite well in stealing top level talent in recent years" but I don't see it.

In 13,14,15,16 there are zero 4* from NC to go to VT.

We outperformed them in NC as well as VA in 16 going by rankings:

Last yr they got 4* Hendon Hooker and Caleb Farley, and this yr they are doing well with Tre Turner and Tisdale (though we didn't offer Alan Tisdale), but this yr is unique in that the state of VA is really down in 4*s, and what 4*s there are, VT is having trouble keeping them:
https://247sports.com/Season/2018-F...Rankings?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&State=VA

I'll trade them Chris Collins for Tisdale. And there are people who say we slow-played Tre Turner in hopes that we get Dyami/Jordyn. If we only take 2 WR, i'd rather than Dyami and Jordyn than Tre Turner.

VT is going to be eating our lunch for the foreseeable future. They are a "football school" and they have a much better staff. With Miami improving, we're up the creek without a paddle.

Time for a change.

Thought Mook Reynolds who is one of if not their best DB was a 4 Star but he was a high 3 Star out of high school in Greensboro. Regardless, Point being, we aren’t winning recruiting battles for top in state talent.

But the numbers and links above disagree with your point.
