Why does the top 10 classes have 25 recruits and we only have 19? Ohio State has 27. Do we not have the scholarships to offer?

We have the full number of schollies to offer. We just chose to go with that number for whatever reason. Could be saving room for a monster 2016 class or not offering them because we would be filling them just for the sake of filling them and want to save them for better players. Could be a lot of things

Texas had 13 decommitments this year , one of which recommitted. Anybody keep up with how many we had? I can think of 7 but think there was more.

The norm for D-1 is 25 scholarship per class, but is affected by:

- Seniors/finished eligibility, early draft entrants, decisions to no longer play/focus on degree, medical hardships, transfers, dismissals, etc. If 85 on scholarship and 70 return the next season, then you only have 15 available schollies

- If team only had 82 scholarship players the previous season then they are eligible to accept 28 letter of intents. 3 to back date last year/season and 25 for the upcoming season/class, as long as they do not exceed the maximum 85 for the upcoming season.

- walk-on's are not scholarship players, but if coaches award a scholarship to a walk-on then it will affect the total number of scholarships per season.

- some schools regularly over recruit and then grey-shirt the excess commitments. These commits will sign letters for the next recruiting class and if they enroll that fall are not on scholarship or enroll the following Spring Semester as an early enrollee for that next class (ex. 2016). Scholarships can be freed for these players, if medical hardships, dismissals, transfers, academically ineligible or no-longer participating occur after the spring practices, which brings the scholarship count below 85 again.

The coaching staff and support staff have regular meeting to evaluate where each of the players are or projected to be so they can properly sign the correct number of scholarship players and also determine how many preferred walk-ons they would like to invite.

I honestly think the lack of a full class has a lot do with the negative recruiting and ongoing scandal at UNC.

Well we had at least 7 decommits and we passed on several guys who I think really wanted to commit.

A poster on Tar Heel Blog said "maybe we can self impose a 6 scholarship reduction on ourselves this year for the AFAM classes".

Fedora addressed this during his press conference today. With the Chizik hiring, they were looking specifically for defensive recruits who would fit the new scheme. That caused them to put less emphasis on guys they had been recruiting and more emphasis on recruits where they were late to the table. As a result they passed over some and missed on others. They chose to save the scholarships for next year's early enrollees rather than fill the spots simply for the sake of it.

Plus, in addition to that........

To make it perfectly blunt, you can buy 10 condoms, but that don't mean you're going to convince 10 girls to sleep with you......

We simply failed to get commits from a couple guys high on our board (Tuttle, for instance). Still a great class, though, that addresses every position of need.
