What did you call your grandparents?

All the talk about southern cooking reminded me of mine. Then I was watching "The War" by Ken Burs for PBS on Netflix and there was a girl who referred to her "Oma and Opa"- her grandparents. One of my best friends' kids calls his parents "Pappy and Two-Mom."

Mine were Nanny and Papa (both sides).

Granddad and Granny on my mother's side and Mammy on my father's.

Mama Sue and Papa Bo on dad's side. Grandmother and granddaddy on moms side - they were older and very formal

Only grand dad I knew was paw paw. Both GMA's where simply grandma. My grandkids call me paw paw now . I love passing down tradition

My father's father passed away one week before I was born. My dad's mom I called grandmom.

My mom's parents were called grandma and paw-paw . . I was very close with them. My dad's mom, not so much. She rarely visited us and we her . . she was kind of a sourpuss type lady anyways.

My mom's parents were Granddad and Grammy. My dad's parents were Grandma Betsy and Grandpa Herb.

My mom insisted that my brother's kids call her Grand. My wife's nephews call their grandparents Memaw and Papa. I think it was @JHVS who made a Memaw reference in another thread. Personally I think it's a terrible name but I didn't get a vote.

It's always kinda fascinated me how the grands on either side sometimes get different names. Even more peculiar; My paternal grandfather was killed by a train a year before I was born and, while my Nanny's 2nd husband was still "Papa" to me; whenever I, or anyone else, referred to my biological grandfather who'd died, he was always "Grandaddy." And, we pronounce Daddy as "dead-dee."

Gramma and Grampa on my moms side,my dads parents passed when I was 2.

Granny and Paw on my Mom's side, they were local. Grandma on my Dad's side, wasn't real close to her. She lived in Dunn, NC and we were in Newport News.

Dad's parents who lived nearby were Meema and Grandaddy. Mom's parents in Iowa were Grandma and Grandpa.

I consider myself blessed that they all lived long enough for me to know them. They've all passed now but I was almost 16 before losing a grandparent. Also had a great grandmother on my dad's side who lived into my teens.

grandmother and chick...chick was a nickname people called him around southern pines in the 1950's...he owned a restaurant downtown and on the side took money from local golf pros all over the sandhills.

It is a long-standing tradition on my dad's side of the family that you call your grandmother "Mama" (doesn't rhyme with "llama".......it is pronounced 'Ma Ma' with the emphasis on the first Ma. Rhymes with 'haha'). It's understood when my dad tells a story and references Mama, he's referring to his grandmother, my great-grandmother. And If I mention Mama, it's understood I'm referring to his mom, my grandmother. My grandfather on that side was dead way before I was born, so I don't know what I would've called him.

On my mom's side, it was Big Momma and Big Daddy. But one of my cousin struggled with those names when she was a child and it came out "Bomma" and "Biggie" and that stuck too.

Well, my parents both grew up south of Richmond, Virginia (Prince George County/Chesterfield, Dinwiddie). Most of My family is sprinkled around there and then near Eden, NC. Of course, we pronounce Aunt like it rhymes with Haunt, not Ant. I dunno if it's regional or not.
