What (If Anything) Does Recruiting Class Rank Tell Us?

What Would Jesus Do?

I looked up some of these numbers for a different thread and thought I'd post them separately in case anyone wanted to discuss. I found it interesting, but not sure what conclusions can be drawn from these rankings.

These are all Roy's classes at UNC, with 247's class rank and the player names:

2019 - 09 (Bacot, Francis)
2018 - 02 (Nas, Coby, Leaky)
2017 - 06 (Felton, Brooks, Huff, Andrew, Manley)
2016 - 05 (Bradley, Woods, BRob)
2015 - 10 (Kenny, Luke)
2014 - 03 (Justin, Theo, Berry)
2013 - 05 (Hicks, Meeks, Britt)
2012 - 01 (Paige, Brice, JP, Joel James)
2011 - 04 (McAdoo, PJ, Des, Simmons, Stilman)
2010 - 02 (Barnes, Bullock, Marshall)
2009 - 01 (Henson, Dex, Leslie, D.Wear, T.Wear)
2008 - 01 (Davis, Zeller, Drew, Watts)
2007 - NA (no recruits this year; only a couple guys were offered)
2006 - 01 (Wright, Lawson, Ellington, Stepheson, Deon, Graves)
2005 - 02 (Hansbrough, Green, Ginyard, Frasor, Copeland)
2004 - 06 (Marvin, Quentin)

I've bolded the guys who left early (regardless of reason) because that's part of the equation, too.

I've underlined those who left after 1 year.

Let me know if I screwed anything up.

A lot of us expect Nas, Coby and Bacot to be OAD.

Reposting from the other thread:

There's a reason Tennessee isn't consistently good though (someone referenced their average player being ranked #200 in recruiting rankings). The teams that are good nearly every year pretty much always are loaded with top 100 talent, with Gonzaga being the obvious exception, somewhat mitigated by them having a pipeline of international players who don't get ranked. Tenn just hit on a couple lower ranked guys, which is great but not something you want to consistently count on.

Recruiting rankings aren't perfect, but they are pretty important because they're usually directionally correct. They obviously don't take into account experience at all, and that has helped us beat UK/dook when they've had more talent on paper.
