Many years ago in my younger (and more foolish) days, I got somewhere between 115-120 on an old country road, before I ran out of road and had to press that middle pedal (that's the brake for all you millennials that have never driven a manual). It was fun as hell, but rather stupid when I think back on it.

Oh well, I still want to do the Richard Petty driving thing or similar experience (not the ride-along) in Charlotte someday just to see how fast I can go.

What you got OOTBer's?

My family used to have a 1973 Mustang, and they were dumb enough to let me and my older brother drive it when we turned 16. I got up to about 120 on an empty stretch of highway and it scared the bejabbers outta me.

Edit: After researching, I found that the speedometer on a 73 Mustang only goes up to 120 so that's the number I meant to cite. Corrected.

When I was young and foolish, a friend and I were kind of racing, at night at about 115-120. Idiotic thing to do, even on an empty highway.
Another time on an old training runway I drove a friend's car at about the same speed.

Now I barely drive 70 , even on the interstate, but I stay in the right lane! :D

Right around 120 in an old '75 Nova. I drive like an elderly person these days (unless I'm in interstate traffic).

I had a built '93 Mustang when the first piece of 485 opened near UNCC. Zero traffic and multiple lanes made it feel safer. Tagged the rev limiter in 4th, shifted, and kept going. Speedo was a bit inaccurate I'm sure but buried it at 140 for a while. I would guess we actually got to 140.

90 myself...never really been into that.

recall being with my cousin in high point circa 1988 and we eclipsed 130 drag racing some dude in nova...i was also scared.

I got my 2000 Mustang up to 115 on I-40 around Warsaw at 2am headed back to UNCW. I got nervous and slowed down to the speed limit, and it wasn't two miles down the road two state troopers were sitting in the median under an overpass. I got lucky.

150 + in a two seat dragster at Englishtown, NJ. 135 in my 'Vette on hwy 70 between New Bern and Dover!!!!!!!!!! Ticket 92 in a 70 in same Vette!!!!!!!!!!:rolleyes:

I had a 1965 GTO with a round speedometer. I took it out on a long straight country road and stayed on it until the needle hit the peg at zero. Way past 120. I would guess 140-145. I also had a 1994 SL500 that I got well over 140 and I now have another newer version that I've had well over 140. Fun cars.

Not sure. At 21 years old I bored out and rebuilt a suzuki 2 stroke 500CC engine and put on a YZ 125 frame. It had no speedometer but pretty sure I crossed 150mph at some point.

Was a passenger in a suped up 1969 Camaro in 1983 that got up to 160mph before getting pulled over by state troopers. That was clocked so, I guess, official.

I get up to 120mph in my Mercedes at least once a week.

Hypothetically, there may have been one occasion in which someone resembling me reached an indicated 130 in my 300ZX. And a remote possibility that someone who may or may not have been the same person discovered that my mom's Cutlass Supreme had a limiter at about 105. If they actually occurred, one of those occasions was considerably scarier than the other; I'll let you guess which.

Why? Is the ice cream melting?
Most of the incidents here were isolated and maybe a product of youthful ignorance, what's your excuse/reason for doing something that stupid on a regular basis?

Dude you gotta lock your cars up... sounds like your doppelganger is taking your family vehicles out for joyrides.

I drive 2000 miles a month for work. Time is Money. Most people drive at least 85mph on the interstate. German cars are made for higher speeds (see German Autobahn) and my Mercedes mechanic has told me many times the cars like to be "driven" and hold up better than pussies that drive slow like you. BTW, move over...

People going slow (read: the speed limit) on my commute to/from work drives me absolutely insane.

But to play devil's advocate here... there's a break even point between how much time/money you save by going faster and how much you would lose if you got pulled over at those speeds frequent enough. Couple that with losing your license if you get pulled at 120 in a 60 - and the time saved would no longer properly compensate you for the time lost by not having a license to do the 2000 miles a month.

I am 46 years old. Have been driving long enough to know the risks. I have license with no points. Have I been pulled over, yes. I know how to get out of it and Mercedes do not get pulled over often.

It's pretty immature for a 46 year old to insult someone they don't even know, when questioned about bragging about breaking the law! Not to mention possibly endangering others. Hopefully you only drive your manly speed on empty stretches of the interstate. Here's hoping you get pulled over and don't get out of the well deserved ticket. :p
