When the Quiet Period Ends, What Will We See?

Don't know specifically but I would imagine it means the staff will be out on the road once again watching kids play and determining whether offers should be extended to those who don't have them. So I would think some new offers may be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.

I hope so. We need a 5 or 6 man class - 4 or 5 more with Jalek on board.

Unless I missed some, we have 8 offers out there. A decade ago Roy was tearing up the recruiting circuit and might well get 4 or 5 top commits with only 8 offers. But that hasn't been true recently, and I wouldn't expect that to turn around on a dime just because the NCAA cloud is nearly lifted.

I'd like to see double that number of offers. Or more. Roy had 22 offers out there last year. We shouldn't need that many this year because we have more PT to offer and less NCAA nonsense. But more.

The only position we probably don't need is SG, although many expect that we'll get Platek.

If I understand this NCAA calendar, the last day of the quiet period is Tuesday.

I don't really know what that means but I hope that means we will see a bunch of offers.

For those who do know what it means, what should we expect?

Here's what to expect: That means there's (oddly) going to be three 5-day stretches in July that are designated "evaluation periods", which means coaches are on the road and aggressive. And of course it's a great time to stage AAU tourneys. The first and arguably biggest 'Big Bang' period starts Wednesday at the Peach Jam, the seminal EYBL (Nike) event that caps their AAU season.

Roy has historically done some damage at Peach Jam (including swooping in and snagging Brice a few years back), and we've gotten our share of players. The 2013 Final for example featured Joel Berry's E1T1 team besting Theo's CP3 team (I believe they set a game scoring record, both teams going over 100).

The Peach Jam starts with Pool play then the top teams of each pool make up a Final 4 of sorts. Interestingly this year most of our prospects are all playing each other round-robin. The teams with Platek, McCoy, Tillmon and Washington are all in one pool, so count on UNC staff haunting that gym.

I am expecting a quick offer out to McCoy and I think Roy will get at least 2 or 3 more out to big men pretty quickly. IMO we just must have 3 front court players from this 2017 class, 2 is not going to be enough from this class IMO. I figure at least 1 of those will be a "project" type of guy but we need a couple that can produce early and the feeling in general is as of right now we don't really lead for a top 50 player that is a front court guy thou we are in the game for several. So yeah, it could look better than the consensus opinions seems to have us right now. But this is a deep class and there are a lot of guys out there that can help us but yeah, we all have some nerves flaring up right now, maybe a twinge of desperation on the big man recruiting front.

A heck of a lot may depend on how we play this coming season, will that sway some of those later deciders? IDK but sure hope so considering no matter what we are about to see both Hicks and Meeks last season with us and other than Tony the only other near close to front court guy we have is a walk on in Luke.

Dave, you still planning to make it to Peach Jam?

Yeah, was asking Ken about when just couple days ago, hard for me to be sure which day I will be able to take away. I want to try to get there for wed, at least the morning session, if I can but right now that is a slippery slope.

I'm still hoping to swing by on my way back from DC but meeting dates are still up in the air. Thurs and Fri look to be the primo days to see our prospects.
