With Dunn now gone I sincerely hope the only remaining adjustment to our roster would be Cadeau if he wants to reclass you have to take him. If that happens then RJ will need to prove he is the best fit for our PG duty, he should NOT be promised anything, he should like every player earn what ever he gets, I don't think even a starting role should be promised to a player, including Bacot and yes even Cadeau.

I like the concept of never promising peeps anything but opportunity! However, I have to sadly say I understand the world we now live in does not support this idea! I don't know how you can coach at a high level which requires some of the elite, and stick to your guns in this way. It is a fine line one would have to walk and when you couple NIL and the portal, it is the reason why all of the old school elite coaches are bowing out! Hubs has a lot on his plate because he is a new coach at a blueblood, but adding the new world pressures means the weight must be unbelievable!

The NIL component is tricky. If a coach doesn't play a guy who's getting top NIL money, will he continue to get that money? I'm guessing not.

In which case you aren't just affecting the game when you make PT adjustments, you are also impacting people's income/livelihood. While coaches probably shouldn't be asked to bear that burden, it could be a real concern.

And what about the boosters and companies who are forking over that money - only to see their "employee" riding the bench? Do they beat up on Hubert? Do they bend the ears of top UNC officials who might be in the conversation to ditch Hubert?

TOS ranks UNC as the top transfer class in the ACC (so far), followed by NC State.

Ga Tech brought in the most transfers with 6, followed by NC State at 5. We, Virginia and Clemson have 4.

Duke is the only team that hasn't grabbed a transfer yet, afaik, but I understand they are in the running for a couple.

I'll be curious to see which coaches do best with these changeovers.

One team I want to watch is Wake Forest. Forbes brought in another little-known PG - and we all know how his last 2 PG transfers turned out. He also snagged 2 familiar names who have underperformed so far in their careers: Efton Reid and Hunter Sallis. If Forbes can wring the expected potiential out of those guys, Wake could not only be good, but Forbes will help himself in future recruiting battles.

One transfer-heavy team that could be interesting to watch is St John's. Pitino has brought in 9 guys from the portal! Four from Iona, which comes as no surprise - although, oddly enough, only one starter from his former team.

I have posed that very idea before. Just how much are NIL donors in HD's ear. Last season was a perfect storm of bad things. I felt all season HD couldn' t be that bad of a coach to allow what we witnessed. A mens league coach should have been able to make it to the 1st round with a returning 90% complete title game team. Manek was vital, but not all we needed/had. Someone had to be in his ears for allowing Caleb a green light every minute he played. Something was going on behind closed doors away from public eye for the issues we witnessed to happen. And NIL would likely be the source.
Another thought on this. If UNC really ran a clean program, and boosters never gave benefits before, then UNC would be way behind in how to handle players with people literally paying them. Dirty programs could simply move their dealing into the light with NIL becoming a thing.

The chit show that is now NCAA/ACC/UNC bball goes on and is now getting on par with **keness and gen** expansion and it all SUCKS !! Another pure college sport swirling down the toilet bowl. Maybe they'll open the men's portal to NCAA women's sports next .. rant over

You need a psychiatrist, and a loving family member to block Fox News on your television.

I doubt you can even define "woke." You just regurgitate the talking points some idiot on TV told you to get angry about.

A "pure college sport?" Yes it was so pure with the point shaving scandals, and the near century worth of impermissible paying for recruits. You are so disconnected from reality.

Another asinine reply by you. Do you practice being a jerk? Take your politics and shove them.

To be fair, it wasn't @DaveChapelle who introduced "wokeness and gender expansion" into a basketball discussion.
Guilty as charged but a fairly accurate analogy as to how some entity or agenda driven group somewhere has a goal of destroying any and everything that represents what would be considered normal or traditional and it's all done incrementally until it miraculously becomes the "new normal" and that's the same way NCAA teams and traditions will become a revolving door and seeing 7,8,9 new players, many upperslass(people for the PC) each season becomes the "new normal" and I think it sucks from a college basketball purist point of view who truly enjoyed watching the players grow and develop as a team over time.

Woke (adj.) - aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues, such as racism and inequality

Now let's try using it in a sentence.

"Dean Smith was woke when he took black members of his church group into a whites only restaurant."
Your condescension on display again. I’m perfectly capable of Googling the definition of “woke”. I just think that definition is BS. But you’re entitled to adopt it if you wish.

The definition isn't necessarily wrong, it's just the application of the word in some instances. "Important societal facts and issues," as well as how to solve them is subjective. You'll have to let Chapelle know that since he's scared of me. That's all I'll say about it though, since this is more of an OOTB discussion.

I agree.

You just choose to think the correct definition of a word is "BS"?

You've got a real Kyrie Irving "I choose to believe the round earth is BS" mentality going on.

Not hard to figure out who brainwashed you into believing your completely inaccurate view on the word Woke.

If I could buy your opinion for what it’s worth and sell it for what you think it’s worth, I’d be a billionaire.

Without the "woke" conversation, the main part I would disagree with is the "pure" past part of college athletics. It has been dirty for as long as it's been bringing in the cash. Seems like you prefer the old way of that cash game being played. Things change, always have, always will.

If you want the actual definition of anything go to Urban Dictionary. They nail it.

Woke:

What was this thread about?

I think the Tar Heels look great at this point in the off-season! The coaches have proved once again to be elite recruiters. They will reflect and adjust and then we will see the team soar! The team is now constructed in the way Hubs wants and I expect to see it function much better and I fully expect to see a deep bench that gets time on the court and is effective!

You need a smack in the mouth and someone to teach you that when you run your mouth to the wrong person, there are consequences.

Woke - an ideology of insincere fabrication of victims and victimhood through manufactured oppression or discrimination, for the ultimate purpose of acquiring power through such victimhood and attaining undeserved social standing through faux outrage and virtue-signaling.

Bball: Slang for basketball; a game played for fun and profit involving groups of 5 trying to get a spherical, inflated ball through one of two metal rings situated 10 feet from the floor and 94 feet from each other. While one group is trying to get the "ball" in the ring, the other group is trying to stop them.

Go Tar Heels!

You mean like claiming something was "stolen" from you for the ultimate purpose of acquiring power through such victimhood and attaining undeserved social standing through faux outrage and virtue-signaling? i.e. Donnie Trump

That kind of woke or have you changed the narrative to a different kind of woke?

I like that definition a lot because it applies equally well to culture war extremists on both right and left - who, of course, would never agree that the word describes them.

I hate that @andrew jones's thread - or any basketball thread - gets hijacked by this nonsense, but since gate is already open, I just thought I'd weigh in on this particular definition.

I see that the devolution of this once like minded in pursuit of Tar Heel basketball board has continued to spiral into a mockery of itself where by so called fellow supporters tear each other down and stab at each other with opinions that easily could be taken up in the wasteland that is OOB.

Not to waste too much time as this thread is already testament to that, but: <Newsflash> People do not change their minds from behind a keyboard.
People with made up minds have absolutely no interest in any opinion that does not support their own no matter how many Google quotes you post.

Congratulations on all of your endeavors at winning an argument on the internet. We all have less time than we think and by the time we realize that and then pivot to begin treating each other with the kindness and regard that we actually deserve- it's too late.

There are still some open scholarships, of I'm not mistaken. I don't know how many, but even one means there's still work to be done in order to fill it.

I don't know what the hell that's supposed to mean. Make sense and I'll respond.

I think you're wrong on this one. Sure, if you are attacked for your views, you are likely to get your back up and become more entrenched. On the other hand, if you are given facts and good reasoning, you may look at things differently. Boards like this, when they stick to basketball, can be good examples of that. Boards like the Off Topic board are more likely to provide examples of what you are talking about.

It's just that when you have no idea of what your roster might look like in May when the 2023 starts in the fall how can you postulate about the upcoming season. Used to be by now you knew who you had and who was coming. At the moment it's all bun and no burger ..
