On this day in 1914 Gavrilo Princip assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife Sophie starting a series of events that culminated in WW I. At war's end in 1918 11 million military and 7 million civilian casualties along with another 2.64 (approximate) from the Spanish influenza pandemic had caused Europe to lose a generation of males.

Brian Jones, founder and guitarist for the original Rolling Stones, dies in his swimming pool at Cotchford Farm, Sussex, England.
It was considered, at the time, due to drowning while intoxicated. But, it has also been speculated, and almost confirmed, that foul play was involved and he was drowned by Frank Thorogood, a builder hired by Jones.
