Would they start?

Obviously those squads didn't need help. But they weren't perfect.

My picks are Brice for the 2009 team, nudging Deon to the bench, and Justin for the 2005 team probably replacing Jackie or maybe playing more of a Marvin Williams role.

We have other guys who would make great subs but I think those are the best fits and would have the best chance to start for the respective teams.

Alternatively, which player(s) from those teams would you add to this team?

Hansbrough is an obvious choice. Who else? What do we need most? A top shooter like Wayne or Rashad? Lawson?

Do it all Danny Green.

Sean May.
Sean or Psycho T would make this year's squad virtually unstoppable.
That said, Tyler Z, John Henson or Marvin would be good too.
You can see the theme here... I'd put front court needs first.
Yeah and it'd be nice to have Danny or Wayne starting in the back court (please let's not have an argument about who'd be the starting point!)

Ellington or Green on this team
Green would be great, but I think Justin is doing well enough that we don't need him.

As sorry as I am to concede it, we do need a reliable shooting guard. Which is why I lean toward Wayne. I'd love McCants, too, if not for the head issues.

Do it all Danny Green.

Sean May.
If you could be sure of getting the same May who broke out in the tournament, absolutely. But Hansbrough would be a safer bet at this stage in the season. Imagine having that motor on this team!

Just Hansbrough's example could change this team.

I would prefer a shooter over a center. Hansbrough would take a lot of Brice's shots. That is just who he was. I would prefer Wayne.

True. But just being there would make it easier for Brice. And now that Brice has added interior passing to his repertoire, he could also feed Hans.

Call it the Thor front court. Hans will hammer you, Brice will hit you with a lightning strike.

I must be misreading the title of this thread. Because to me it reads - which player from our current team would you have put on the 05 or 09 championship teams to make those two teams even better. And if that is indeed the question (as odd as I find it to be), I'd probably say Joel B. IMO, he's the one on this team with an attitude that is most similar to that of those teams.

If it's the other way around and the OP is asking for what player off of either of those teams would you take to be on this team, that's easy - Ellington. Without hesitation. If we had a shooter like him, this team might be undefeated right now in a year of no really strong teams. We'd be the prohibitive favorite.

If only starters, Hansbrough.

If backups also. Love Green off the bench. McCants at the 2 over Paige. Lawson at PG over Berry. Berry and Paige off the bench.

Lawson
McCants
Jackson
Johnson
Hansbrough

I mean Henson was better than Brice but I'll let him stay.

Backups
Pg2 Berry
Pg3 Felton
Sg2 Paige
Sg3 Ellington
Sf2 Danny Green
Sf3 Pinson
Pf2 Henson
Pf3 Jawad Williams
C2 May
C3 Zeller

Absolutely no player to the 2009 team or 2005 team. Sorry, they won it all, didn't need anyone. They could definitely use some players from 05 and 09 on this team.

I did this backwards.

Berry couldn't add anything over Felton or Berry.

No one could add anything over McCants. Jawad and May complemented each perfectly. Add Justin Jackson in

Felton
McCants
Jackson
Jawad
May

09...

Lawson not getting moved. Hansbrough not getting moved. Some play beyond that. Ellington was way overrated but we don't really have a shooter to replace him... Thompson I guess is replacable.

Lawson
Ellington
Green
Johnson
Hansbrough

My Kingdom, for Ellington on this year's team.
He would be a perfect fit in place of paige just because this team lacks a spot up shooter.

Problem I have with ellington is he basically just was a spot up shooter with the best pg in the league by far feeding him and a great inside game to make defenses have to collapse constantly.

Are you serious about Ellington. Dude's mid range jumper off the dribble was money in the 2009 tournament.

The reason the inside game worked was because the court was so spread by Ellington and Green. Tyler was the 3rd best player on that team in 2009 behind Ellington and Lawson. Their improvement beyond Tyler is why that team became a championship team.

Overrated? Yep, it's official, you lost your flippin mind.

Wayne Ellington

UNC career stats: 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists.
Shooting percentages: 46.3% field goal, 39.7% three-point.

A three-year starter for North Carolina, Wayne Ellington came into college with the reputation as a sharp shooting guard and left as one of the top shooting guards in school history. Ellington's 39.7 three-point shooting percentage speaks for itself. His sophomore and junior seasons he shot at or over 40% from behind the arc (40.0% and 41.7% respectively).

The Pennsylvania native was named to Second Team All-ACC in 2008.

Ellington was an essential part of the 2008-2009 National Championship team. The squad that included Ellington at shooting guard, Danny Green at wing, Tywon Lawson at point guard and Deon Thompson and Tyler Hansbrough at the two forward spots went 34–4 and beat Michigan State in the NCAA finals. Ellington shot 7–10 from three-point range in the Final Four. He was named the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player.

You are insane if you think that.

I am well aware of who he is and what he did. And, if you read my post. I said he was litle more than a spot up shooter.

McCants was almost 2x better than Ellington yet you have ppl who think Ellington was better.

Hence, overrated.

I'm I the only one that thinks there is no player on this year's team that would even be an asset to either one of those 2 teams.

Agreed, both were pretty complete teams. I don't know that we've got a single player on this team that would have started for either of those teams, or for the '12 team for that matter. That really speaks to the reduced talent level of the current team. The '05/'09 teams were deeper and much more talented. Several of their bench players would start on this team. Sad, but true.

And while this team could use any number of players from the '05/'09 teams, I would choose Felton and Lawson. Great teams start with a great PG.

I don't think Henson was better than Brice, though I loved Henson. Henson impacted the game in a lot of ways for sure. He was better defensively than Brice but Brice is better offensively and is just as good a rebounder, probably better this year.

Henson was much better defensively and just a hair less as good offensively. Brice is a better rebounder tho.

Henson was without a doubt better defensively. I think a junior Brice is a hair better than a junior Henson on the offensive end. I think this year's Brice is quite a bit better though. I can see an argument for either though. I also am a big believer in someone who can make a difference defensively so that does carry weight.

Henson developed that sweet jumper his senior year. It made him hard to defend and spaced even more for Zeller.

Well, we sure could have used someone from this team to back up Kendall. Either Paige or Berry would have gotten us to the championship game.
