I was just glancing at NBADraft.net - I know, I know, not the best mock draft site, but it's free - and was shocked to see only 1 Duke player listed.

Unsurprisingly, that player was Filipowski.

Even more shocking was that he wasn't even listed in the first round. What?! I'd absolutely spend a first round pick on him, wouldn't you?

I'm assuming Duke players get good NIL. So if Filipowski isn't going to be drafted in the guaranteed money, why would he leave? I mean, sure, he might just want to get to the NBA as quickly as possible. But otherwise...?

So then I checked Duke's 2023 class. Five guys. All ranked in the top 20.

Yikes! Where will Scheyer find enough PT?

It looks like Duke will need to move deep into the NCAAT, just to bump some players into being first round draft picks.

Wow! I wondered what their next recruiting class looked like. The current group of Duke freshmen doesn’t have the hype that previous classes have had but they are playing like a team unfortunately.

I wouldn't trust NBADraft. Even though there's no real consensus for the best NBA Draft projections, NBADraft.net has always felt amateurish to me. They're like the On3 of draft projections IMO: Good for a quick reference but should not be taken as gospel.
NBC and B/R have Lively and Whitehead going somewhere between the late first and late second. And ofc Filipowski.

Whether they leave or not probably depends on how far they go in the tourney and how much they believe in their game vs. risking watching their draft stock decline further.

Flip and Lively are lotto picks per ESPN. Whitehead is first round also per ESPN. Proctor is 6'5' true point guard that is moving up the rankings. Let's hope they all leave. They are better than anyone on our team.

I am looking for Lively, Flipper, Whitehead, and Roach to all leave, possibility that Proctor does as well.

If I'm in that position, I'd spend a first round pick on Filip, and 2nd round picks on Proctor and Lively. I'd want to see Whitehead go injury free for a year. While Roach has done pretty well, I don't see him as NBA talent.

The other guy worth considering is Mitchell, but he's another I'd want to see prove himself at this level first. He needs to smooth it out and develop more consistency. If he does, he could be seriously good.

All those guys - and a couple more - will play for pay in the near future. Other than NIL, that is.

My dukie buddy tells me that flipper could come back but he seems to have what the NBA is looking for now days in a big man and has shown that. I think he is a guy that could really show well in the combine, not even sure him testing the combine would even be the smart idea, you don't want them to find a concern they do not already have. If the CBA does change to allow kids to enter right out of high school you would sure rather be in this draft than the next one.

With Foster and McCain coming in next year their backcourt would be too crowded if both Proctor and Roach returned.

I have buddies who are Iron Dukes as well & they are telling me the same thing.

That’s ab what you should expect. However, The two bolded above could be wildcards.

Whitehead came in highly touted and def tanked any kind of draft stock he had coming in. An experienced SG with a lottery pick ceiling…only 2 CGs coming in…Why not, with the NIL package Dook must have?

Roach could only look improve his stock. He’s a combo guard that’s doesn’t bring much to the NBA that isn’t already being sought after in the first round. Unless he’s just over it, I don’t see a mutual parting.

I would also add Mark Mitchell to that list.

The difference is that when Laettner arrived, Ferry was in place, and Ferry was a 6-10 BF who also could shoot well from outside and pass very well from the wings and baseline. Most people only have forgotten how good Ferry was because Laettner was on his heels and better.
