Winning basketball

It is definitely something that Roy will go home happy about. It showed a lot of composure from our guys to be able to absorb the zone and make the extra passes leading to really good looks. That unselfishness from 1-5 is something that should be a key component of every game from us and is a recipe for a lot of success moving forward. I think it just shows once again how successful we can really be when our guys work together, we have a very unselfish group and when things are clicking we can play with anyone. The chemistry of this team is certainly trending in the right direction and we all know at this time of the year, that is definitely an important part of winning close games and going on deep runs. If there's one thing that Roy Williams is great at doing, it is getting his teams to come together late in the season and for that I think he definitely deserves a ton of credit for this 6 game streak. Keep things rollin!!

100% Frank... and I bet you’d agree, it’s not just one thing he’s great at doing!

Offense was great, and it's been on fire over the last while.

Defense really need to improve for us to make noise.

And he deserves some credit for calling a huge "timeout" tonight (says it was only to bring in Luke), but either way it actually took away Cuse's momentum and we had 4 straight defensive stops to close it out led by that big steal and basket to follow from Joel. He has made adjustments to his schemes over these last few weeks and the results have certainly shown it. Another thing that he deserves a ton of credit for and I think is telling of the job that he has done this year is the way we have rebounded and how he has gotten our guys to buy in to doing it collectively game in and game out.

I thought Adam's article was fitting for this thread about winning basketball. It seems like there is really good chemistry in the locker room right now, I don't think anyone wants these Heels come tourney time. Great words once again from Cam (at the bottom), I really look forward to hearing what he has to say in his post game interviews, such an intelligent and great kid, he is certainly home in Carolina. I think this quote used by Dean and Roy over the years is fitting for the way this team has been playing and will be successful if they can continue to do so, "It's amazing what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit."

"In a winning locker room, nobody is tired," he said. "People seem to buy in better. And it carries over to practice. There's a different feeling there. It's a different kind of happiness, a different kind of excitement, a different kind of looking forward to the future but also not looking too much to the future. You've got people going back and forth with each other, no one is talking bad about each other or the coaches. It's a great feeling."

What do we get with 6 straight wins in March/April, following the ACC tourney? Hmm? Another natty! One can dream right?

Roy has done a FANTASTIC and I mean FANTASTIC job of coaching this team. The players realty are doing a greet job.... Theo is a BEAST an absolute stud and he is making a case, a real case for an NBA roster.

Love this team and oh BTW Joel is a REAL warrior unlike that punk the dookies slobber all over. 6 in a row???!!! NO ONE including me saw that coming Just keep doing your thing Heels GO HEELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just saw some numbers:

During our 6 game winning streak, we have a +64 advantage in second chance points and have attempted 53 more shots than our opponents.

And a stat for the year is that we are 20-3 when we have score more second chance points than our opponents.

Keep crashing the glass and grabbing boards, (also limiting turnovers sure does help too) there a reason Roy preaches it.... It can’t be said enough that it is a big advantage to win the battle on the boards, only good things happen if we do it successfully.

And an interesting tidbit: in last years tourny, we led opponets 116-68 in second chance points and 39-29 in the final four, with both games combined being decided by 7 points.

There are stats and then there are stats. Those are very telling, Frank. Rebounding, and more specifically offensive rebounding, has been the main ingredient in our success the last 3 years.

I will reiterate what I said earlier, rebounding was my biggest concern, by far, coming in to this season. I am amazed that we lead the nation in total rebounds this year.

Another impressive Roy Williams stat. In addition to this being the 8th straight year that we have had at least a 6 game winning streak in ACC play. This is also the 13th out of 15th year that we have won at least 11 ACC games under him.

And in what is arguably the toughest conference, year in and year out. And to have our 6 game winning stretch during the toughest stretch of the season so far, is quite a feat. Very impressive indeed.
