Would Be Nice To Get More Production From Our Bench

Everyone assumes anyone we bring in is going to be good. Guys ought to show it on the court before we count on them. The people who complained we didn't need to bring in Nance because we had Puff/Styles look silly right now. We'd probably be 3-2 right now without Nance.
I like Nance- glad he is with us. I think the guys coming off the bench are good players too. I expect them to play at a high level when they come in.
Plenty of season left to improve individually, mesh as a team, and re-learn the fact that EVERY opponent

I sure hope Pete can continue to score, rebound, defend as he did today through most of the rest of the season. Hope some guys learned, the entire team has to bring it every day. I saw some interesting matchups, not necessarily in our favor.
That is something that we ideally would have committed to developing 5 games ago. That didn't happen, thus here we are...
There should be a few criteria for the bench to get some playing time:
1. Play defense
2. Don’t turn the ball over
3. Be able to hit a wide open jumper
Now who on our bench can meet all three of these…..well Puff
Styles can maybe play some defense, Dunn can shoot, Tremble can play defense.
The problem is we have incomplete pieces on the bench. Other than Puff, you will have to accept the shortcomings of the others to let them into the game.
On the other hand, like Gary said….we should have just gave them minutes with these first 5 games even if we would have lost a few.In this way, they and the coaches would have learned a lot about what they can bring in the future. Giving them spot time ….they don’t have time to adjust to the game flow.

It's a bit of a catch 22 at this point. This is the 2nd game with over 20 minutes of bench time and next to no production at all. When they get called upon they need to contribute to keep minutes ( Nickels was called upon in a key situation today and was lost on dee twice within a minute, once in transition and once in the half court) you're going to sit in that type of game situation doing that.
But to start to get comfortable they need to get some minutes. I think Puff will depending on matchups, Trimble has shown a plus area in his dee to contribute, Dunn has shot more confidentiality then last year, still trying to look totally comfortable in the other areas though. The others are capable, they need to step up when called upon, bust their behinds in practice to be ready.

Trimble and Nickel both enjoyed some 1st half minutes against Portland... both squandered that opportunity.

Hubert is definitely different than Roy in this regard... almost seemed Roy was willing to take a loss to give freshmen Luke May some burn but Hubert is still coaching as if he hasn't been given a multimillion-dollar extension.

Hubs is different than Roy but I find it hilarious that the same peeps that complained that Roy using so many peeps just disrupted momentum and that he should ride the hot hand are saying Hubs should play more peeps! Peeps screamed when Roy lost to a team he shouldn't because he played bench players too much but now we need the bench! The fact is there are many successful ways to play and since our team is undefeated, I'm thinking this is one of them! (For clarity I didn't say everyone who complained fits into the same boat) I want us to play more, but I trust the guy who watches them in practice to decide when they play AND I agree that if they suck on D, they sit!
Why do you just ask what happened to Trimble and not ask what happened to Puff/Styles/McKoy/Nickel?
I would have thought, of all posters on this board that you would have been the last person to ask this? It was as simple as Caleb was having one of if not the best games he has played in a UNC uniform and you ask, you, Mr "all you need is love" asks why the guy that has been backing Caleb up didn't play more? LOL
