I never saw him play at UNC. But watched him with the sixers and he was a very good player for them.
A top 10 favorite for sure. As a player he's in the conversation and that means he was pretty darn good!
When you're the best defensive player in UNC history (along with Dudley Bradley), and generally considered the best defender in the NBA during his career that says a lot.I never saw him play at UNC. But watched him with the sixers and he was a very good player for them.
My favorite quote was from the great David Thompson when he and Bobby were teammates: "There's only one guy in the league who can check me, and fortunately he's on my team". Double impressive considering David was a 6'4 (maybe) Guard and Bobby was a 6'9 Forward.Top 10 at UNC is tougher than almost any bball accolade!
Loved him as a player and Doc J said he was the reason those 76er teams were so special! He was the glue, lunch pail guy that could get you 25 or 13 rebs or 90% fts or shut down opposing forwards!
I can't make myself say no to top 10, but I can't honestly say yes either!
All true, except I think he was listed at 6'9 (and Dean measured in socks).Okay gary, Bobby, as I remember him, was 6'8"...defense/hands AND he was the guy that stole the inbounds to lead the greatest comeback in UNC history, 8 down with 17 seconds...
Yeah, Brad may have been 6'11-3/4 when he came in at 16 yrs old, but he was easily 7'2 by the time he left. Dean was so determined not to have a 7 footer, he never measured him again as legend has itI recall his track and field high jump days in HS. IIRC, he could high jump his height. (I'm not looking but it would be close).
and and Brad D. was never 7'...Dean and the 6'11 3/4" in socks indeed... Bobby did look a bit like a herky jerky style when running up court...good times.
