Smith's family money could alone endow a whole lot of football. And in this age it might take that just to be able to have real hope of becoming relevant nationally. To think Mack, especially at his age, could do that job is thinking from no closer than the 1980s.
Perhaps we need to create a position of GM for football, and give that to Smith, who may then want Johnson as his HC.

Could do what job? Fundraising? He's the reason we could afford Fedora's buyout and is the reason that all those improvements to Kenan have been made. Say what you will about his coaching, but he has no problem separating people from their money.
The only person on the planet who might have a chance at raising more money is Roy. Smith isn't beating Mack in that department. You're letting your hate for Mack blind you.
