Spoke to two sources recently on Ellis off the record. His official visit to Duke is coming up this weekend to Durham. He will have mom, dad and his high school coach with him. Both schools are really working hard to sell their pitch.
UNC is selling family, culture, multiple ball-handlers and scorers playing together. And pushing tempo. Duke is selling a similar pitch.
As we know, Ellis grew up a UNC fan and they’ve been his dream school since 6th grade.
He still has San Diego State, USC, Arizona and others after him but those schools are a bit nervous due to the presence of Carolina and Duke.
Going into this weekend’s visit, my feeling is that UNC is the leader. Again, just my personal opinion. Duke will need to differentiate itself with a customized sell. I don’t think they’ve done that so far.
I believe we will see Ellis make his decision in early to mid November. I haven’t confirmed that, but my intel and read is telling me that.
