Austin Greaser, a junior at Carolina, plays for the US Amateur championship today in a 36 hole final match at Oakmont outside Pittsburgh. This event is a grind that lasts all week and he has played spectacularly, only trailing a total of six holes in all his matches this week after a grueling stroke play format earlier this week that let him get into match play.

He has some serious game and watched him yesterday ...he can putt and boy do you need to at this incredibly demanding track, with the second fastest greens anywhere ....only behind the Masters.

Many consider him the favorite but anything can happen as we know. I really am rooting for this young man...if he wins his name will be on the same trophy as Bobby Jones, Palmer, Nicklaus Woods and many other legends of the game. Good luck Austin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very disappointing result. Austin was 3 up with 9 to play and loses 5 of the next 6 holes and loses the match 2 and 1. He played very well until the final 9 and just did not play well at all down the stretch. Old expression .....most games are LOST rather than won and this is a prime example of that/
Well he will get to play at Augusta, the US Open and the OPEN championship at St Andrews next year.
