On the great 1972 team Bobby Jones was not a starter. The soph was the sixth man, 3rd forward behind Seniors Wuycuk and (my childhood favorite) Bill Chamberlain. George Karl and Steve previs were the guards with McAdoo at the 5.
In fact, in the ill-fated National Semi game, Jones got the start only because Chamberlain was a few minutes late for a team meeting... chemistry never seemed to recover.
Chamberlain absolutely went off in the consolation game as UNC destroyed a loaded Louisville team.
HUGE disappointment ending though. The whole country was looking forward to an epic UCLA v UNC / Walton v McAdoo matchup.
