Darkhorse candidates for ACC Defensive Player of the Year

Nazair Jones (DE, UNC): OK, we know what you’re thinking. How could any player from a defense that was as bad as the Tar Heels were a year ago emerge as the league’s top defender? But Jones is a legit talent, and despite limited reps a year ago, he still racked up 7.5 TFL and 35 tackles. Now he’ll have Gene Chizik’s defensive system to work in, and there’s no question he’ll be an impact performer on the line. So if the Heels’ D takes a big step forward in Year 1 under Chizik, someone is going to have to get the credit, and Jones might be the breakout star UNC has been looking for.

I would take anyone on the DL stepping up, although I'd prefer massive improvement across the entire defensive front. There's enough talent there, even if the depth isn't great. Coaches Scott and Chizik have their work cut out for them.
