It was a great trip. We had a couple days of wind behind us at the beginning, then a couple with wind on the nose that we had to motor into. But during one of the motoring days we caught four good-size mahi (ate one, released the others).
The last night offshore, right around midnight, the wind came around to the east just enough for us to kill the engine and sail, and we had about two hours of the most incredible moonlight sailing I can remember, with the Gulf Stream adding a couple extra knots to our already impressive boat speed.
The crew was myself and my dad, and the other co-owner of his boat. It was a chance to spend some good time with dad, and since the boat is up for sale, there's no telling when we'll get the chance to sail offshore together again.
On the flight down we had a view of Eastern NC from 30,000 feet. We could identify exactly where the marina was, and dad's house, and the general area of mine.
