I've always wondered why we don't dominate in golf like we do most other Olympic sports. The NC region is so full of great golf resources and courses, it seems like we should have no trouble being a powerhouse.
 
There will be multiple Tar Heels among the field of golfers at the U.S. Open later this month. Ryan Gerard earned a spot in the event by tying for first place in a qualifier tournament in Jupiter, FL, earlier this week. Gerard will join teammate Austin Greaser, who qualified for the U.S. Open with his runner-up finish in last summer’s U.S. Amateur Championship. (Chapelboro.com)
 

Two-Time All-America, WCC Player Of The Year Dylan Menante Joins UNC Men's Golf​

Dylan Menante, a two-time All-America and West Coast Conference Player of the Year who helped lead Pepperdine to the 2021 NCAA men's golf title, is transferring to the University of North Carolina. Menante played three seasons for the Wave and is second all-time in stroke average at Pepperdine (70.98). He was WCC Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022. (GoHeels.com)
 

Former loan officer Ben Griffin clinches first PGA TOUR card​

Former North Carolina golfer Ben Griffin’s grandpa was an avid golf fan. Douglas Griffin lived in Hickory, North Carolina and passed away last July, with one line in his obituary reading, "Hit them long and straight." At the time, Ben was working as a mortgage loan officer. That line struck him and helped inspire him to pursue professional golf once again. (PGA Tour)
 

Austin Greaser, Ryan Gerard Among Three Tar Heels At US Open​

Three current and former Tar Heel men's golfers are set to compete in the U.S. Open, which begins Thursday at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. Ryan Gerard and Sean Jacklin made the U.S. Open field by winning co-medalist honors last week at a qualifier in Jupiter, Fla. Austin Greaser, Ryan Gerard Fare Well In US Open First Round​

UNC's Austin Greaser shot 2-over-par 72 and Ryan Gerard shot a 74 in the first round of the 2022 U.S. Open in Brookline, Mass. Greaser birdied his second and third holes (he and Gerard began their opening rounds on the 10th hole) and played the first nine bogey-free. UNC Golfer Kenan Poole Wins North Carolina Amateur​

Kenan Poole, a rising senior at UNC, made a 15-foot putt for birdie on the first playoff hole to win the 2022 North Carolina Amateur Sunday afternoon at the Greensboro Country Club. Poole is the fourth UNC men's golfer to win the North Carolina Amateur in the last decade, joining Josh Martin in 2014, Carter Jenkins in 2015, and Peter Fountain in 2020. (GoHeels.com)
 

Austin Greaser, Ryan Gerard, David Ford Named Golfweek All-Americans​

Golfweek has named University of North Carolina men's golfer Ryan Gerard a second-team All-America and David Ford a third-team All-America. In addition, junior Austin Greaser was named honorable mention All-America. Pepperdine junior Dylan Menante, who announced last week he is transferring to UNC, also was an honorable mention selection. (GoHeels.com)
