This board is frightfully dead right now (understandably so, but still...)

Use this thread to pose anything about Carolina Football that doesn't involve spray paint in Derm. I couldn't care less about that nonsense.

Thoughts on the released schedule? Sucks having @ GT as our first conference game doesn't it?
Thoughts on who will be most improved this year on offense? What about on defense?
Think Marquise will start all 12+ games this season (assuming he remains healthy) ?
Care to predict a W/L for the season?
What are the "turning point" games you see on the schedule?
Any game jump out as you as a "trap" or "surprise" game that most might be overlooking **cough, Illinois, cough** ?

Anything. The season is only 6 months away. 3..2..1..go!

I am not opposed to opening ACC play with GT - get PJ out of the way early. It is the week after Delaware, which will give Chizik time to prepare. It could work out well for us.

It could work out well for us.......but based on distant and recent history, it won't work out well for us. A few things to consider:

Since 2002 -- as far as this site's schedule goes back -- Carolina has started 1-0 in ACC play ONE (1) time!!! One time. That was in 2011. Every other season, we started 0-1. That is beyond awful.Of those 13 conference opener losses, 5 of them were against Georgia Tech. The ACC has a propensity for giving us the Jackets in Game 1. We also faced UVA a handful of times in the conference opener in that time span, Va Tech once or twice, and FSU and Wake once each. The main takeaway: We perennially dig ourselves into a hole each season. We shoot ourselves in the foot before we can even get our momentum going, which leaves us playing catch-up the rest of the year. Given these numbers, it's unsurprising that we have never won the Coastal Division and haven't won the ACC since 1980 or whenever.We haven't beaten GT in Atlanta since 1997. This year's game is in Atlanta.There's some hope for optimism though because Fedora's tenure has seen its share of breaking negative streaks. We stopped the 5-game skid against Moo (yes, I remember this past season), we beat Georgia Tech (regardless of location), we've started beating Virginia regularly (this started towards the very end of BD's tenure), and we won a share of the division. So......let's keep removing these monkeys from our back and let's go into Atlanta and record a win on The Flats.

Personally I'm hoping Chizik has a positive influence on Fedora as a HC. Maybe spending a little more time working on football instead of youtube videos will help towards getting a positive start to the season for once.

Of the four uniforms, I definitely like the first one best. I don't think we ever wore the uni in the Lawrence Taylor pic in games. We did wear those helmets but not jerseys with the "Carolina" on the front. I could be wrong but don't think we did and I would have hated them if we had.

Interlocking NC on helmets is much betterb than UNC, which is much better than feet and other such cutesy crap.

As I prefer Carolina blue helmets and minimal, or no, navy trim, I would pick the Don McCauley uniform. But olke #22 looks good.

1 - As for uniforms, this is the best we can hope for:

Personally, I would love if we moved to something that resembled PSU's uniforms.


2 - GT game being the first ACC game - meh...we'd have to beat them at some point. When shouldn't matter.

3 - Most improved offense - Hood. He'll be healthy and hopefully someone talks some sense into Fedora about using him more than 5 times per game. On defense, I'll go with the entire secondary. They sure as hell have no where to go but up.

4 - Marquise will start every game in which he is physically able to do so.

5 - Win/loss record - 7-6. Why would I think differently.

6 - Turning point games? All of them.

7 - We're not good enough to have "trap" games. Every game is a potential loss.


But don't mind me. This is all coming from someone who repeatedly trashes the program.

None of the above.

I don't care much about uniforms, which is why the hand-wringing among fans about what we wear is aggravating IMO. But, given the choice, I tend to agree with Woad. Have to have the interlocking NC and the navy blue should be kept to a minimum. The pic of Ronald Curry above shows the uniforms worn in the late 1990s/early 2000s and the navy outlines are too wide.

Also, while I have no problem with the occasional alternative uniform, I dislike that the interlocking NC on the blue helmet is now black instead of white. White logo on blue helmet is fine, blue logo on white helmet is fine, blue logo on black helmet is fine. But not black on blue.

The losing streak in Atlanta has been mentioned several times. While that's troubling, it has absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of this year's game. The real issue is the respective trajectories of our two programs. UNC is in a slow slide while Justin Thomas runs GT's offense better than anyone has under Sour Puss. The streak has to end at some point, but this doesn't appear to be the year. Going down 0-1 in conference, especially against a divisional opponent, has the effect of sucking the life out of our fickle fan base every season.

Depends. He's going to be pushed by both Trubisky and Henderson in practice now, and if he starts next season like he ended last season it wouldn't surprise me to see him yanked. He's a fifth-year senior and there's simply no reason he should continue to struggle with his accuracy and consistency.

I really don't feel like the South Carolina game qualifies. We won't be expected to win. If we lose, it won't generate a reaction one way or the other. If we win, the story will be that South Carolina is down this year (book it). I think the GT game is far more important. If we can start 1-0 in conference, the next few games are very winnable (Wake, Virginia, Pitt) and could give us some serious momentum in the Coastal.

USM fans warned us that Fedora has a WTF game every season. I'd say the same has held true at UNC --- Wake in 2012, ECU in 2013 and 2014 --- so that's concerning. Y'all wanna talk uniforms?? Fine. Let's talk uniforms. Do not give me the stairstep logo, the rams horn logo, or any of that junk. The best uniform combo we ever wore was during the early 2000's under Bunting (when it just so happened that we were going 2-9 and 3-8 every season).

From the Jesse Holley / Darian Durant era:

Simple. Clean. Minimal navy blue. Like a couple of y'all have said, I'm really not a big fan of lots of navy in the uniforms. I hated when BD introduced the navy away pants. I thought it looked terrible. In particular, the home uniform I showed above is my absolute favorite. Love that white ''collar'' with all the Carolina blue and no navy/white/navy shoulder stripes. Too bad we went like 3-8 that year LOL. The all white kits -- Texas style, if you will -- with the CB lid was sweet too.

Personally, I can't stand the unis we wear now. Don't like the random color combos, the black, the number font style...none of it works. Keep it simple and clean - one Carolina Blue jersey and one white jersey like you have. That's all we need.

Oh and seeing as we can talk about anything other than spray paint...bacon.

On the topic of unis, I like the home jersey THN posted. I'd say throw Carolina Blue pants on with that to make it all blue. The first pic UNC71-00 posted looks weird to me. Maybe it's just the lighting or angle of the picture, but the helmet and shirt look like two different shades of blue.

As for playing GT in ATL as the first conference game, I kind of like it. It'll let me know if I can bury my head in the sand until bball season fairly early on in the fall instead of dragging me through a month or two first.

Kidding obviously, but it'll be a good measuring stick to gauge the team by early on.

The way I look at it, either we win the game, start 1-0 in conference play, having overcome the monkey on the back in ATL and start really gaining some momentum (which would be great) to carry us through the remainder of the regular season. Or, we lose the game, and at least get PJ's high school offense out of the way early so it doesn't mix up the flow in the middle of the conference season. As someone else posted, it'll be nice to give Chizik an "extra" week to prepare, assuming he doesn't have to burn the midnight oil prepping for the Delaware offense.

With the season six months away, I'm having a little trouble getting into football, but,right now, I'd rather talk about that than the dook game, so I'll give this a shot.
The Schedule: not too excited about playing Delaware and A & T. Illinois is at least a Big Ten foe so that's ok. Starting out with sc could be tough, especially considering our defensive problems and Spurrier's dislike for us, but maybe we can play a decent game. The conference schedule is what it is; I don't think it's that tough but it is UNC football so we'll probably split those games. I just wish we were playing at home on Halloween so I wouldn't have to go to some godawful Halloween party.
W/L Prediction: 7 and 5.
QB: I don't see anyone but Marquise starting barring an injury. However, I hope we might be able to see a little more of Mitch or Caleb in games 2 - 4 and see what they can do.
Defense: where do we start? Hopefully, Chizik has some answers. I think some of the freshmen may be needed sooner rather than later. Good gosh, we can use the help.
Offense: OL, OL, OL and play calling. We need to establish a RUNNING game with our RB's and not just Marquise. If we can do that, I think it will open things up for our playmakers at receiver. And, of course, it all starts with BLOCKING somebody. I wasn't exactly enamored with Seth's play calling either.
Turning point game: The first one with sc if I had to pick. If we play well (Chizik miracle?), we could gain confidence and possibly have a very good season. If we get blown out....well, we've seen that movie before.
I apologize if I sound a little down on Carolina football, but after those last two games I have lost my enthusiasm for it. When we whipped dook's butt, I thought we might have turned a corner, but, it turned out, I couldn't have been more wrong. Does anyone know what happened? I mean, we knew the defense was bad, but the offense shut down too. WTH happened? Anyway, maybe by September, I will have recovered. As always, GO HEELS!

Against UCLA, another CWS contender. Committed a lot of errors on a field that was very unkind as well, so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Appears all the visits this past weekend went well. Hopefully this weekend helped lay the groundwork for some commitments down the road.

Overall, I'm very interested to see what kind of class this coaching staff can put together by February 2016. To say I'm "concerned" at this point is putting it mildly. I've posted my support for Fedora many times on this board and I stand by that and still support him and his vision; however, I do feel that he's not entering a point in time where he has to start changing his and his staff's recruiting pitch from "sizzle" to "steak." You can only sell "the future" for a couple years and then that pitch starts to lose its impact when Top 25 seasons and pushing double-digit wins doesn't happen.

I feel we are now at that juncture of the Fedora Era. It appears as though, IMO, this year's recruiting efforts will be more driven by W's/L's than in any of Fedora's previous season. The time has come for the Heels to realize their potential. The Heels needs to overachieve this season -- 6 or 7 wins isn't gonna cut it. The schedule is very forgiving, comparatively.

Hopefully the coaches and players have a productive Spring...!

DB play should be substantially better this season. I don't know what to expect from the defense as a whole, but I feel confident that the DB's will be a much improved unit. Warren seems like a great coach, we have talent in the secondary with more coming in (Britt, Hughes), and the overall front 7 play should be better which will help the DB's.

Here's to hoping the whole "keep your back turned to the ball" mess is gone for good

There's nowhere to go but up for the DB's. When you start expecting your team to give up 3rd and 20's, and you're right most of the time, there's a serious problem.

Last year's D was comically bad if we're being honest. It looked almost like a deliberate effort to suck. If we're judging this team based on a scale of last year I expect them to vastly over-achieve.
