CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina claimed its first series win over Virginia since 2012 with a 12-2 victory in the second game of an ACC doubleheader Saturday at Boshamer Stadium. Brian Miller and Tyler Lynn both homered in the series finale as the Tar Heels improved to 12-4 and 2-1 in the ACC.

Game one featured a pitcher's duel between Luca Dalatri (2-2) and UVA's Adam Haseley (3-0). The two combined to allow just three runs in 16.1 innings, with Haseley's solo homer off Dalatri in the first among them. Carolina tied it in the sixth with a solo shot of its own from Logan Warmoth, but Virginia (13-3, 1-2 ACC) plated the game-winner in the ninth for a 2-1 win.

The nightcap was all Carolina. Lynn opened the scoring with a home run in the second off UVA starter Evan Sperling (3-1) before the Tar Heels exploded for eight runs in the third to break the game open. UNC sent 12 men to the plate in the inning and got RBI doubles from Miller, Zack Gahagan and Brandon Riley to build a 9-0 advantage.

Ashton McGee had the first of his two RBI singles in the fourth to give the Tar Heels their first 10-run performance against the Wahoos since 2005.

Virginia scratched out a pair of runs in the fifth, but Carolina immediately answered with two more to restore the 10-run lead. Miller powered his second home run of the year out to right center and McGee singled home Warmoth to cap the scoring.

Austin Bergner (1-1) worked three scoreless innings in relief of Jason Morgan to pick up his first collegiate win.

For the second time in the series, UNC hammered out a season-high 13 hits. Warmoth had a safety in both ends of the doubleheader to extend his reached base streak to 31 games.

Carolina wraps up its 17-game homestand Tuesday when the Tar Heels host former ACC rival Maryland at 4 p.m.
